Getting a title

There is a 1967 Mustang Coupe for sale in the local paper. It doesn't have a title. How would you go about getting a title and registering this vehicle? It's for sale real cheap so i am thinking it will make a nice project car.

title

I think you have to go to the dmv and request a replacement. All they should need is the vin #. Just call em and ask.

I think in most states anything older than 1974 you don't need a title for it just your regerstration is all you need for proof of ownership. But having the title would be alot better.

It is much easier to sell a vehicle with a clear title! Try trading one with a salvage or odometer discrepancy title. No can do! ennis

First of all, you gotta ask yourself why this vehicle is being sold without the title. Could it possibly be because the person selling it doesn't own it?

Take the Vin and engine serial number to the police before you even think about buying this car to see if it's stolen. Then find out who the last owner was and see if it's the same person who's selling you the car.

Oooh! Oooh! I know this 1!!! Okay - in '67 in NYS there were NO titles! They didn't issue titles till the late 70's sometime or possibly the 80's! Having owned mostly cars from the 60's (2 -'62 Galaxie 500's, '67 Newport, '68 LeSabre & '70 Montego)I am POSITIVE about this!
I would still follow Dennis' sage advice however - get it checked for salvage/junk/flood history just in the unlikely event something major was ever wrong with it. If you know a police officer they can run a VIN check that makes Carfax look like a game! I did that with my truck - it was interesting!
If the car checks out GO FOR IT! Sounds like a great project car! I also have a great site for any old Ford cars/trucks - I beleive it's www.macsautoparts.com & they have catalogs for EVERY model! BTW - catalogs are FREE! Good luck & have fun!

BTW, check with whoever registers cars. In some states, you will have to pay all the back taxes unless the vehicle was put into storage and the plates were turned in. The amount owed can sometimes be a significant amount.
