I never knew I charity could be a pain.
I never knew I charity could be a pain.
So I'm taking my lunch break today and my phone rings. When I answer its a local used car lot telling me to come pick up my car! I'm like what car? Turns out a local ministry heard about my experience in the May 22nd tornado here in Joplin and it seems they raised some money to do this. I respectfully declined as I have all the vehicles I need. The salesman or manager, whatever he was, said "um.... Ok" I went on to explain that I have already replaced my truck and that I would feel better if it went to someone who actually needed it. A few minutes later I get another call. Its the ministry that put all this together. After the guy asked me why I turned down the car and I explained to him the same thing I told the salesman, he got a little irritated. He says " ya know we jumped through a lot of hoops to get this done." I told him I understood and that I just wouldn't feel right accepting something I don't need and to make the offer to someone who does. There is plenty of storm victims that do. I again thanked him for the thought and apologized for any trouble. Then he shouts "fine!!!!!" And hangs up. Weird huh?
and i'm cynical so sounds about right to me. so many don't really care about truly helping like you obviously do. they are only concerned about their image and you not taking the offer just makes their work a little harder.
i say good for you. even if their intentions started sincere, they wavered and lol, you made them stay on track.

Sounds to me like the people (all) on the other end have a hard time making 1&1 come out to 2. Both the dealer and the ministry (IF this was actually legit) go out and do this without ANY communication with the recipient. Somethin's not right there!
The salesman was actually cool about it. He was little thrown off that someone refused a free car but it seemed like he understood. I kinda had the same question. Why didn't they contact me about this prior to getting the car? Either way I don't think it would have changed anything. I knew what I wanted to do the minute I got my "blown" truck home and that was to bring it back somehow. After Fema denied me, the only way I felt I was going to do that was on my own and that doesn't bother me. I've never minded a hand up, but will never take a handout.
Good for you! Glad to see you did the right thing, you think they would be grateful for your actions.
