Hey all I hope someone can help me. My son has a 1992 blazer. He needs freon for fis A/C. Its just something for him to get to and from work. I need to know if we can put the new freon in. I know your suppose to convert it but didnt want to spend the money. Can we just put in the new freon and hope for the best. If someone knows please chime in!!!!

From what I have heard you will have to change the hoses to use the new gas. New gas will leak through the old hoses. The new hoses are supposed to have more layers and will not allow the gas escape. Wether thats true or not??? Should be info on the net.

My understanding also is that you cannot mix old and new freon types.

Hit some flee markets and find some r12 or find some r414b which is supposed to work just fine with the old systems.

will work...for a little while. the oil that r12 uses is a different type than r134a. the o rings and hoses will suffer over time.

Someone told me of a new freon, R12A that is supposed to work with the old freon, but be non world destroying. I don't know about it. Might be worth a look-see.

You should be able to find R12, but it will be expensive. Adding R134a to R12 is not a good idea and will fail in sort order.

I think it's fairly new on the market.
