stockpiling food, water, ammo etc

is anyone else accumulating a little extra vital supplies. if so what kind of items and what quantity?

im not having good feelings about what is going on in DC. in fact its more concerning than y2k, hurricanes and 911 all put together.

No, not stockpiling here.

I agree that the clowns in DC probably will not be able to get an agreement on the debt ceiling / spending cuts. But IMO they will pay the interest on the debt first, before they let the USA default. Therefore, sudden economic collapse will be avoided.

OTOH, I just read a book that would make anyone want to stockpile. It's called One Second After . It's a very scary take on what could happen if some of our enemies hit us with a surprise EMP attack. If you were inclined to stockpile before reading that book, it will kick you into overdrive, lol.

I'm not stockpiling but it does seem like a good excuse to tell the girl when I go buy spare fishing arrows and that Penn reel I've been looking at.

Also, Y2K should have never been a concern. Our computers were not nearly as advanced as people thought.

My family got a bunch of things from our neighbor who went crazy during the y2k and started giving away his possessions.

My family isn't necissarily "stockpiling" in case of a apocalypse or the 2012 thing, but my dad was a cop for 15 years so he has collected his share of weapons and he was able to get ammo cheap while he was in their, so we have several thousand rounds of .223 and
.308. So, yes if something does happen, we are ready, but were not one of those crazy preppers.

IMO it becomes crazy when you have turn a missle siloh into an apartment complex to survive an apocalypse. Or when you quit your job and turn your life into worrying about an apocalypse and prepping for it by making underground bunkers and storing $10,000+ worth of food.

i laughed at the Y2K thing i found it funny people buying up food and water for crazy prices. people are so dumb and will belive anything and on 12-28-2012 i will be laughing once again.

Anyone I have ever known to stockpile food has just ended up throwing away lots of expired canned goods a few years down the line. I'm more worried about getting killed by a dumb*ss drunken driver on the way to the airport than I am of political Armegeddon coming to the US. In my opinion, this country has survived a lot worse over the years than the group of idiots that currently occupies Washington DC.....

If you are stock piling stuff, just increase your normal can good purchase, and make sure to rotate the stock, first in, first out.
This way you are using it as you buy it.

I do this in general with can goods, dog food and 1 gal jugs of water.

Also keep 2 cases of Aquablocs around, just in case and the stand by MREs.

It does not have to be for the case of world coming to an end, think back to the North East power outage.
Nothing was open, due to having no power, no ability to get money or fuel.
If you did not have it, you were not going to get it.
Ask anyone that lived through that, it was like the end of days as far as basic items went.
Make sure to keep a good stocked medical bag as well, but this is common sense, while some seem to not think about. I have seen some who don't even have a box of band-aids around the house, let alone a few 4x4 gauze pads and tape.
No huge need for splints and the likes, unless you are accident prone, and in a pinch duct tape and a copy of people magazine work just as well.
