Clear Bra?

Anyone ever have the Clear Bra done to the front of your truck/car? Worth it? Positives/Negatives?

I have it on my 11. The only complaint I have is dust shows up on the hood piece. On my 07 I just had it on the hood and loved it but got a lot of rock chips on the bumper. So on my new truck I had the whole front end covered and no chips yet.

They used to have problems with them yellowing and drying out. They can get expensive if you do hoods, fender tips, bumper, and mirrors. Unless you live somewhere where you get a lot of rock chips it may not be worth it to you.

the cheaper ones I have heard of yellowing. I had my 07 for 2.5 years and no problems. It was 3m brand. For the 3m on my 11 the local place wanted well over $1500 for the whole thing. I honestly dont know what brand is on my 11 but the other place locally that did it has a warranty on it for anything so if it yellows they will replace. I think stx fx2 fx4 and platinum is all that have painted bumpers which tend to get rock chips everywhere from my experience. If you have chrome bumpers you can cut alot of expense out.

Had it done on my wife's black explorer by a friend that owns/runs a tint shop. You can't even tell it's there, which is the idea.

Regarding yellowing: he said that even the best quality ones will begin to yellow after 5-6 years, So he suggested against doing it to my white F150 if I planned to keep it that long. But, he also said that you would probably never see the yellowing on any other color.

Thanks...my son lives up in Reno, bought a black VW Golf and was worried about the rock chips from the gravel and salt during the winter...I never heard of them and didn't know if they are really a gimmick or not...I never really had any problems with my trucks, but then I again I wouldn't buy black, just a tough color to take care of in my opinion....

I lived in Colorado for a while and worked at a body shop. I have seen first hand the difference it can make in a place like that. Some cars, especially those that sat lower to the ground, had the paint almost completely stripped off. Of course this was due to where they drove and several years of driving. Even just a handful of rock chips can be a nasty sight though.

The cars that had a clear bra were spared with the exception of a stray chip high up on the hood or fenders. If it is done right and with good material you wont be able to see it and it should last a long time. Definitely worth it, in my opinion, if you live in an area with lots of debris on the roadways.

For what it costs to have done, you could have a body shop fix the paint in a few years.

I think it'd be worth it to get it done. I'd rather have it done once and forget about it than have the front end repainted every year.
