There were quite a few members of the last congress who wanted to do just that. The only thing that stopped them was their memory of what happened in 1994 after they passed the Sarah Brady Scarey Looking Gun Law aka AWB. That was a test to see just what they could get away with. They tried it and were severely punished in the next election. Barbra Boxer said this very thing on a 60 Minutes interview.

There are also those folks who honestly believe in their hearts that making private ownership of guns illegal will, over a long period of time (i.e. decades), reduce violent crime and make society "safer." According to this logic, the guns in circulation will wear out and vanish, people will forget how to use and maintain them (and likewise will become more fearful of them), and people will somehow get used to the idea that guns are something that only the police and military have any business with -- not "normal" people.

I don't know for sure that that logic is flawed, as it's hard to predict the effects of something whose outcome wouldn't be known for decades.

The fact is, though, that private ownership of firearms, along with the knowledge of how to use and maintain them, was a critical factor in the birth of the US -- the country would not exist at all without it. For that reason alone, as long as enough US voters maintain their knowledge of US history and the importance of private firearms ownership, it will be safe.

You just keep thinking that.
When before you pass, it is illegal to own a gun, just keep in mind how you tried assuring people it could never happen.

When an openly admitted anti gun ownership person get confirmed to the Supreme court what do you think is going to be the outcome ?

The other thing that people aren't seeing is that if a treaty is signed it essentialy becomes part of our constitution. This is the "BACK DOOR" that needs to be watched very closley.

We as Americans need to wake up and stay awake. Washington elites don't have your best interest in their minds or hearts!

And YES IT COULD HAPPEN. The libs are working night and day to see that it does.

I will keep thinking that because I believe it wont happen! It's an ammendment to the constitution!

Yeah, the Constitution says a lot of things. If you haven't noticed there is an entire political movement going on that would like to make the Constitution a thing of the past. They say that it's old, it's outdated, that it's a charter of negative liberties. There are a whole lot of people who've taken an oath to uphold and protect the Constitution, who are doing the exact opposite.

You may be right. It may never happen. Passivity is no way to make certain that it DOESN'T EVER happen.

I agree 100%.

Stick your head in the sand a bit more.

Might want to read up on how UN Treaties work, when ratified by the country's government.

And again, this is the same thought process the citizens of Germany had in 1930.

Voting for politicians that support issues like this will get it to be a reality.

The type of gun ownership is already limited, that is chipping away at the 2nd amendment.
It starts with the type of gun, next is the number of guns, then the type of ammo, then the quantity of ammo.....
What is to stop a tax on gun ownership ( veiled as a registration fee ) that makes gun ownership financially impossible ? This could be another amendment ( they were still being passed into the 70s ).

Just keep this conversation in the back of your mind when the gun laws are as restrictive as the UK or Germany's laws.
You can own a gun in those countries, but you have to fill out a lot of forms, and be approved for the ownership ( no recourse for rejection ), it can only be at a gun club that is monitored ( and limited access ) by the government authorities, has to be stored there disassembled ( firing mechs are kept by the armor, not in your locker ), locked there and cannot leave the location.

Think of the cost of that....

Might want to research the candidates that you support.

Obama :
1. Research what he supported and backed when he was a politician from IL in terms of gun ownership.
2. Nominated Sotomayor for appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court.
3. Appointed Clinton for SoS.
3.1. She is a strange person, somewhere between law school and politics, she converted from Republican to Democrat, this was prior to leaving IL. Doing what it took to become a politician.

Sotomayor's comment on the 2nd amendment :
the right to possess a gun is clearly not a fundamental right
- Maloney v. Cuomo

That is from a U.S. Supreme Court justice that is charged with upholding the constitution and the amendments.

How exactly are you fighting it ?
You seem to support the politicians that you say you will fight..
