New Forum/issues
Folks,
I enjoy the new forum Steve has set up. Many new features, etc., that I am still learning.
A few comments:
1. I am on cable using Netscape V4.77. The new forum has brought my cable to its knees loading F150online.com. I contacted Steve privately via email regarding this and he knew my problem before I divulged my system.
Those who may be having the same problem should upgrade to Netscape V 6.01 or use Internet Explorer. It's not Steve's software, it's Netscape V 4.77 (in my case).
2. At the bottom of the page is a list of who is online here ........... when you see "webmaster" you better get your $#@t together as the "The Big Boss Man" is here!

Dunbarton ... great to see that you are still around, don't see a lot of posts from the people that were really active on the board in 1998 when I registered. I was gone for about 18 months but am back now and still enjoy the board even more than I did in 98 & 99. It has really grown..

Have been trying to log on for 4 days or so using ie.
No luck.
Tried my other ISP,and i succeeded.
What is the cause for not loading on this particular service provider, never had any trouble with that.
What is in this new software that prevents the loading of f150online.
Today is the first time I've been able to get through from work since Monday, and I still can't get on at home. I'm running IE at home through Prodigy Internet. I never thought about using another ISP... I know ProbeTalk had some similar problems when they changed over... maybe something similar's happening here?
By the way, I couldn't get through using IE or Netscape. Made no difference. Just timed out eventually.

I'm stoked! For once, I'm the one who's not having any problems!
I always run the latest versions of IE. I keep trying Netscape, but it's definitely not as stable as IE and takes half of forever to load (when compared to IE).
Hope you all get the problems solved. I know when I was having problems, it was frightfully frustrating. Almost made me want to get drunk!

Netscape gets a bad wrap these days, but I still prefer it to IE.
I had to make a tough decision when upgrading the boards and I'd like to share that thought process with the NS4.x users that are having a tough time.
First off, a few months ago I knew that these boards HAD to be upgraded. The response time was getting worse and the load on the server kept getting higher and higher.
There were two alternatives, UBB6, which is the updated version of what we used to use, and vB2, which is an upstart that essentially grew out of a desire to grow the UBB in a different direction. It uses a completely different architecture than UBB (mySQL database vs flat text files) which inherently makes it easier to integrate with other stuff on the site. (like shared authentication with the galleries, chat, etc.)
In evaluating the two products, both of them had serious weaknesses when it came to the Netscape 4.x browser. In all honesty, I place the majority of this blame on the web designers, not the browser. In somewhat geek-oriented terms, the page layout of the two products use a lot of "nested tables." Basically, in order to make the pages pretty, with colored lines around the boxes, within the look & feel of the site, you are basically building a table within a table within a table, etc. FWIW, UBB6 was even worse with its use of nested tables!
IE does a great job of rendering these very quickly, in part because it is willing to overlook errors in the HTML code. NS4.x is very unforgiving and has to make certain that all the HTML code is (for the most part) correct before displaying the entire table. So, it is not that NS4.x is locking up, it isn't, it will display the page eventually...sometimes that means a minute or so, and your connection speed is not that relevant.
So I was faced with a tough decision. The old UBB had to go, but I did not want to alienate and risk losing some of the longtime NS4.x users. I posted a message asking how important this browser support was and got very little response, which was comforting.
The upgrade happened and here we are. It was tough to make this decision, but remember it had to be made for the good of everyone. At some point, we probably also have to say, do we need to support a browser that has not been updated in more than two years? Please understand, a lot of thought went into this and the goal was never to shut out NS user, but rather have a board that could continue to grow for everyone.

Using Internet Explorer 5.5
Still no luck to log on f150online.
It loads the f150online logo but then it is stuck with the
index.cfm file.
What is in that file that prevents the loading.on my ISP.
Never had problems with that before.
My other ISP loads very fast.
Anyone has a clue what is causing this.
Very annoying.
Will contact my ISP on Monday.
Webmaster????
