How do the new late model trucks compare to past generations?
How do the 97-2001 trucks compare to the early to mid 90's F-150? I currently have a 95 4x4 with a 5.0 and it has been bullet proof. But sometimes a change is needed.
Any common problems with late models with higher miles? Are the 5.4l reliable? Do the newer trucks eat the front ball joints? Any areas I should pay attention to in a new "used" truck?
Thanks!

Common problems? hehe just a few.
* Door cracks
* Piston Slap
* Leaking sliders
geez there are several more but most are not that big of a deal
I have a door crack but it's tiny as most are and I just don't worry about it. If the door rusts off I'll replace it.
I bought mine a few months ago and have had no problems with it to date. se sig for what it is

Well I do like my 97 but I'm still a big fan of the early and mid 90s style. One big thing is the suspension systems which are easier to work on and lift. Another big thing is alot cheaper than my 97 was.
The models are way better than the old.
If you tought these new trucks are gas hogs, you have not driven an 80s model 5.8L. Now, those were gas HOGS!
The older trucks drove like trucks. Felt like trucks. Handled like trucks. Rode like trucks and were noisy like trucks.
My new truck tows better. Is cheaper running. Is lighter. Tows better. Handles better. Rides better. Is quieter. Has way better performance. Way easier to engage 4WD. Has way better brakes. Has way better factory stereo system.
Unfortunately, the new truck cost $10k more than the old one did back in '87.
