I think I have an idea that would fix this oil problem.
I guess we can do that but there could be some repercussions like:
air being so toxic that you need to carry an oxygen tank with you to breath
water being so polluted that you die from touching it
soil so polluted that it won't grow plants
Just saying

I mean look at Beijing before the Olympics. They had to shut down all of the factories for weeks to clear the smog enough to prevent hazards to the athletes. Many still needed to wear masks to be safe.
That just scrapes the surface. We really have no idea how bad the environmental effects of their growth in industry has had. They are such an open society over there!

I am sure the people that bought homes in Florida with Chinese drywall that gave off toxic fumes and corroded pipes wish China had an EPA to check out what they were doing there?
The EPA is an easy target but I would rather keep them around. If not, see above again!
I some what agree. But your blowing it way out of proportions. They can do the same worthless crap they do now on a 5 billion budget. That would add an extra 5 billion a year to the budget. That would be nice.
And a little tid bit. Once Obama took office he raised the EPA's budget from 7.2 billion to 10 Billion. Did they really need a nearly 3 billion a year budget increase? No

Sure, what a fantastic idea! Rob Peter to pay Paul, right? We can take that whole .6% of the Federal Budget and devote it to nothing but oil because everyone is pissed about gas prices and someone needs to pay, why not NASA! I mean, it's not like NASA has given us anything for our tax dollars.

We don't need anything like that stuff... let's get more OIL!!
Sorry. People going after NASA for easy money is a pet peeve of mine. We're not going back to the moon, even fifty years later. We're no longer sending men into space after this year. What else do you people want to take away from space exploration? We're moving slow enough as it is.
Unless of course my sarcasm meter is broken and you don't actually mean what you're saying... but it's hard to tell anymore.

The reason I went after NASA is because they are the best and the brightest engineers, scientist, and brilliant minds that the USA has. Who better, when we are in a bind, to quickly get us off oil dependence and to find a better, cleaner, renewable fuel that works for the American Model?
When they are done, < 5 years I'd hope, the US should have a surplus of money that we are no longer shipping over to the Middle East for oil.
Use that money to double or triple NASA's budget of today if we want. The maybe we could afford to give them the money they need to actually do something great again.

Seems like they have no mission or not enough money to do anything very spectacular.
Wow. Dont get me started on the war. Anyone who opposes those wars is ridiculous.
Now we are supposed to roll over dead and not care when someone bombs our buildings and kills over 4 thousand Americans. You guys are funny to say the least. If it were up to me I would have dropped a nuke on the whole little pitiful country that is Afghanistan.
This song explains everything since the lefties cant seem to remember why we are in this war.

Nothing pisses me off more then a bunch of liberals calling us bullies for going over there. If this country wasnt full of backless hippies like that then maybe we would get S@#$ done and we wouldnt be in debt. Because we wouldnt be handing money out to all the people you seem to think that need it, like ghetto familes of 17 kids in the slums of Detroit that smoke dope but live off welfare that liberals started to give everyone a chance at life. Sorry but if you dont earn your income then you dont deserve an income.
Once you start thinking about how the wars are useless, just remember where you were and what you were doing on September 11 2001. Did you say "screw it" We dont need to retaliate. I bet you didnt I bet you were pissed off like I was and wanted to kick someones *** and make them pay.
To bad this country has to many people that think like you guys so we have all these rules of war and cant even get crap done like it needs to be.
here ya go. this is a video of the very people you guys seem to love and think we are bulling over there.....

Our Soldiers Sacrificed themselves for this War. Nobody else did.
War's cost money. If we believed in the wars we should have Payed for them.
We didn't.
Now we have no money and are blaming it on AMERICAN Workers. Yea, That's Patriotic..
Squabbling about a Billion here, or a 130 Million there.. A TRILLION on Iraq alone. There should have been a BILL for a $1,000 Per Houshold for 3 Years.
Borrowing Money from China to protect our Freedom. Nice...

Where is anyone blaming this on steel workers? And last time I check steel workers in private origanizations are NOT the ones striking in Wisconsin. Its the PUBLIC workers. He is taking away their right to collective bargaining.
Steel workers are 99% of the time private company and are not effected by that at all.
Teachers, cops, Firefighters, city workers. They have it very well off and much better than the average person does in a private job.

THAT is the problem with this country right now.
A TRILLION Dollars would have built a fence clear across our Southern boarder. Instead we have Thousands of illegals coming in (carrying Who knows what kind of dirty Bombs). I'm sure THEY will be cops and firefighters for a lot lower price. With NO health benefits required..
And who the hell said I was a Liberal? I've got AR's, Pistols, Trucks, and Dirtbikes. I'm an American that care's about Other American's.
I have no issue going into Afghanistan. However we quit within a year and went off to Iraq. We left our allies there to deal with the war that makes sense in order to fight a war that was just a mission to right daddy's wrong.
If we would have focused on Afghanistan, we would have gotten Bin Ladin by now and brought him to justice. Instead he is laughing at us from his cave.

Take a mission to Mars, just for example. It will require dedicated research into human psychology, long term self sufficiency (100% recycling program... talk about going green!), radiation shielding technology, technological redundancy, the list goes on and on. If we were to go to the Moon and build an outpost there first, as we had planned until Mr. President put the kibosh on it, that list would include a hundred more things... every one would be applicable in some capacity here at home.
In addition, have you seen the numbers for the Earth's population? It has more than doubled since 1960. That's not growth, that's actual numbers. There are twice as many people on the planet now than there was 50 years ago. The population uptrend will, ultimately, be unsustainable. China has already implemented population controls. There aren't any more places on this planet we can go, unlike when Columbus sailed. Sure, we can fill in all the empty space, but how will we feed them? We need the technology to be able to grow crops without fertile soil. There's no fertile soil in space... maybe we could borrow a few ideas from NASA... oh, whoops! They aren't funded anymore.
Who else is going to do it? Private enterprise? Sure, in 50-100 years. NASA has a huge head start, and why would we want to pull the plug on what WILL be the spearhead of the future for humanity? I can't think of a better place to do it than the USA.
Even if we can find out how to feed them, there won't be room for them. If we can start NOW to learn how to build colonies and sustainable living quarters off planet then by the time the real population crisis arrives we'll at least have some idea of how to handle it. Besides that, there are TONS and TONS of raw material just floating out in space, ripe for the taking and ready to help sustain mankind rather than taking everything from Earth.
I could go on, but I'll stop. I know all of these concepts lack specifics, but the fact is that eventually space exploration will have to happen, and I'd rather not see another country be the ones to decide how.
Easy boy. I didn't say cut them off so they could figure out how to get us to find more oil.
Look at the list above. Over half of the things on that list were by-products of the things they were actually trying to do. Just think of what they could accomplish for the average American person if THAT was their mission?

While I understand the sentiment, I fear the results of something like that. In my own personal experience, robbing from one to pay another with the eventual goal of giving back just never pans out. We would focus NASA on oil, and once that's fixed we'd find something else to focus them on. Global warming? World hunger? Herpes? Who knows, but something would come up and space exploration would fall by the wayside because it's 'cool' but not 'necessary'.
Besides, I know some folks at NASA, which is part of the reason it's a bit of a hot button for me, and they didn't go in there to look for oil. They went in there to explore space. If you MAKE them go looking for oil, then they'll just leave and go find a private company that IS interested in space exploration for a change.

you are clearly not listening to me.

We can't use NASA anyway to solve problems because most Republicans say nothing good comes from government.
Well unless it involves taking away people's rights or trying to legislate morality to comply with their beliefs.
