^^^ Exactly. There are hundreds if not thousands of people ripping off the welfare system every day in this country. Makes me mad!

This turd needs to fry. I don't know how many cheat the system, but I am sure the percentages are fairly low. That said, even 1% turns into a high number when you consider the number getting aid. It is going to happen and when it does get caught they need to hammer them to deter others from doing it.

This woman I am sure made even more than she is admitting off the books considering the house, vehicles, boat, and land in Florida!

K-Mac Attack;4515190]Regardless of original intent, America is supposed to be a free land where people can worship as they choose. You can pretty much do anything as long as it doesn't directly infringe upon another's rights.

Seriously, do you all want religion to play a role in our country as it does in Iran or Saudi Arabia?

I certainly do not wish to live that way.

This is the thing that kills me about conservatives. They support BIG government when it fits their needs. Big government is great when it dictates what people should believe, what they do to their body or who they want to be with.

I at least respect Libertarians for being consistent.

I guess that is where I differ from the conservatives. I want my freedom. I could care less about the money. I can always earn more and I can't take it with me when I die anyway. If it means that a few undeserving people get to sponge off of my efforts, so be it.

I would rather have some lazy welfare recipient take a few hundred off of us than some crooked Wall Street guy take a few billion off us.[/
Kinda want it both ways don't-cha?

On a similar note:

Did you know that Federal Law (US Dept. of Agriculture) prohibits any audit of free lunch recipients to exceed 3% of the total recipients?
Our local school system audited 3% of free lunch families and found over 46% fraudulently obtaining free lunch funds.
The USDA claims it does not have the funds necessary to audit more extensively. The local system said it would conduct the audit with no USDA funds required. The short answer was NO AUDIT per federal law.
Why couldn't a private firm or local system that is willing to work a deal for say 5% of the savings resulting from an audit be allowed to conduct 100% audits of the program? Probably because it would kill much of the USDA involvement dollars and jobs from the school free lunch program. Smacks of "The fox guarding the hen house".

We are going to have people cheat and take advantage of things no matter what. Always has happened and always will.

This is an example of someone just flat out lying to get benefits.

There are also people out there sucking from the nipple that are otherwise capable of working that won't. Why? Maybe just lazy. Maybe they have a mental illness. Either way, I'll accept that a few abuses happen.

Do you think that no one cheats on their taxes? Do you think that no one hasn't cheated on their work's disability programs? Do you think that some CEOs have ever cooked the books to make their salaries/stock prices better?

You don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Those things happen and when you catch someone like this, make an example of them!

I agree they should allow the audits if someone wanted to volunteer the time/effort or do it for a cut as you suggest of 5% but I doubt anyone would go for that. The costs are probably greater than the savings achievable. I mean what does a school lunch really cost? I know the principle of it exists but some things just aren't worth it. It is like spending $5 to save $1.

Breakfast and lunch is involved, probably somewhere north of 2 dollars per day per child, probably 3 dollars. 40,000 students in a system, 28 percent on free lunch program. That will be about 5000 students worth of fraud. 10,000 dollars per day @2bucks. That would be 500 dollars per day at 5%. Multiply that by a contract with several school systems.
You are right, it might be hard to scratch out a living depending upon the staff and research costs. Then again, who says you have to contract a 5% cut, even 50% would be a cost savings to the taxpayer.

Anyway, my point was there is a ton of fraud most of us don't even realize because it never comes to our attention.
