Cigarette Butts are litter, USE YOUR ASHTRAY!
It's not a joke
Smoking isn't some kind of character flaw - it's a bona fide addiction. It's been proven to be harder to quit than cocaine or heroin. If I knew then what I know now I would have chosen NOT to smoke. I CHOOSE not to drink - I could bellyache about all the drunks I see out there or who get behind thw wheel of a car/truck & kill innocnet people. I don't appreciate being put in danger by a drinker anymore than a non smoker likes cigarette smoke. Just remember - a smoker won't get behind the wheel & kill someone because they had 1 cigarette too many. The point I want to make is that any addiction is not going to be stopped by sheer willpower or pressure from others. Let's try to remember that before this post gets out of hand. I agree that throwing butts out is a disgusting thing to do - I don't do it nor do most of the guys here. I think we can all agree that we agree!
whew. for a minute there i thought i was the only smoker on the board. my solution was simple, i don't smoke in my truck. not even on long trips. although it tends to take me longer to get where i am going unless of course i break the speed limit to make up for smoke breaks.
the one i hate the most is being hit by empty beer cans while driving my cycle. has happened once.

I knew this would spark a conversation. I am not saying anything bad about any one person or their choice of habit. If you choose to smoke that is your right. I am not preaching to you to quit. I just want the smokers that toss their trash out the window to stop. It is littering and I can't understand why some (not all, Thank you COWLADY) cannot use their ashtray and empty it in the trash. I have the same disdain for littering of any kind but smokers do seem to be the worst. Again this thread was not started to preach to smokers. I know most are smart enough to know they are damaging their health but it is a powerful addiction. I saw how hard it was for my father to stop after smoking for most of his adult life. He has now been smoke free for over 17 years and has never looked back. My uncle could not quit and it killed him.
Lightningcrashz hasn't been behind the moonroof throwing types I guess. They go everywhere and some do hit other cars but thats not the point. Use your ashtray. I respect smokers right to smoke and they respect my right to a cleaner environment. Have you looked down at a stop sign? or the top of an off ramp?
Butts are everywhere.

What the smokers fail to realize is that when you get old and sick, Medicaid, medicare, etc, all will be responsible for your care. This along with private insurance... So, becasue you keep a disgusting habit going without worrying about your health, you keep healthcare more expensive for the rest of us.
Butt (!) it's not just smokers that **** me off. People who don't pay attention and cause accidents, people that pull out in front of me, etc. They help keep insurance rates up.
Then there's the people in the ghetto whom my taxes support. It goes on and on, and on. (The only people still in the ghetto are the ones that are paid to be there.)
What about the people who have been on death row for years and years? Kill them already!
Back to the topic, smokers throwing out butts is a big pet peave of mine. Just take a look at the ground on a busy intersection. It really pisses me off to see a cop throwing a butt on the ground, because it's littering. I usually report them, although I am sure nothing happens. On that note, they banned smokine in all federal and state buildings, but smokers can still smoke in police cars. What's up with that? My taxes pay for that, and I don't want it!

Well,I wish the ash tray didn't have two a/c vents on the way to it.
kind of makes it impossible not to get ashes all over the truck. I see what your saying and I respect it,but vehicle ashtrays are becoming smaller and harder to get to every year. The last body style of Ford truck had an ashtray
about 8x8 inches, and was at the bottom center of the dash. Mine is under the drink holder on the right center portion of the dash, and is 2x4 inches wide. I've heard the new ashtray is a container that pops into the cup holder.
How much smaller can they get?? The smaller they get,the harder they are to
get a cigarette into(and the longer your eyes are off the road in the process)
As we smokers become more and more of a minority, the car ashtray will eventually disappear altogether
This post did make me think about your concerns, and I will try to stop throwing my butts at you
. Sorry,I was a little
teed off last night

Let's close this topic, shall we?
To the understanding members here who realize we DON'T smoke because we CHOOSE to I say thank you for your understanding. Yes, we do realize the health consequences - my Dad quit 18 YEARS ago & died from lung cancer last November, although the doc's feel it was his exposure to work hazards which caused it judging by his particular type of cancer. Even so it was extremely upsetting to us to say the least. Now, for those who persist in despising us, all I can say is it must be nice to be so flawless & to have no bad habits for which you can be despised. I guess none of you live in glass houses, huh? I hope not since someday, someone may throw stones at you. For those who are noncommital on the issue, you're the smartest of us all! Lastly, to jay who objects to smoking in a police car, I've never seen it & if so it would be the officers who are allowed - with the stress they are under I say they should be allowed to. If suspects are smoking I'd be very surprised. I guess my only advice is to stay out of the back of a police car. Besides, it would seem to be impossible to smoke w/your hands cuffed behind you. That's my final word on this.
I am not so worried about it hitting my truck, i put my truck through worse things. However, if you throw it on the side of the road, ESP. in southern new jersey (pine barrens) it is an extreme fire hazard. I have been to many brush fire(small thank god) where we found a cigarette as the point of origin. Just try to think about eveyone else when you do it. I am not saying it's wrong to smoke, it's your lungs, not mine, but it is my house. And throwing one out your window could detroy that.
Cowlady, I'm not bashing smoking...nope, the smoke doesn't bother me one bit (unless it's in a car, where I'm the back seat passenger and the windows are rolled up...ewww!).
It's an addictive habit (just like my dippin'). I heard it once said: "If we didn't have some vice, everyone would be a perfect @$$hole".
The littering does bother me, and that's the point of this thread. But then again, I can list several things that bother me:
* Kids with no seatbelts/carseat/booster seat
* Kids who are subject to parents smoke (with the windows up or down)
* Kids who have to watch their parents beat the crap out of each other
* Kids who are abused by their parents
* Slow drivers in the left lane
* Drivers who fail to yield the right of way to pedestrians
* Drivers who fail to yield the right of way to emergency vehicles
* Raoul
* This post and thread
...OK, off track there (just kidding Raoul)...you get the point... thx for the PD backup...

Just think, all of us trailer park people and ghetto dwellers are going to have a check sent to us from the president so we can stimulate the economy and buy us some more smokes.....
Seriously, I like a good cigar now and then and usually will move in a restuarant if someone is smoking near me when I eat. That is the only time it really bothers me. The butt issue is real, they are everywhere. Watched some guys throw them into a pond at Barefoot Landing during Myrtle Beach Bike week just to watch the fish try and eat them...there was some wholesome family entertainment!
Someone up north tried to pass a bill to pay for butt returns...like the old bottle thing. If we could get the cig. manufacturers to offer discount on cig.s for returned butt's, that may keep them out off the ground.....?

Good ol' population control!
I don't have a problem with people smoking. If they want to choose to smoke that is their business......Besides, smoking is a good form of population control. We need some form of that. Lung and throat cancer caused by smoking is a very painful way to SLOWLY die. I've seen how that form of cancer can diminish a person. So if you are a smoker and you come down with terminal cancer, do yourself a favor, use a bullet and save yourself the pain and misery.
I do get annoyed at people dumping their ashtray on the ground or flicking the butts out the window. I can't stand seeing giant pile at the local market because some butthead was to frick'n lazy to dump it in the can. To those people, just hurry up and catch cancer damn it.

I am a smoker and i will admit i have thrown a couple out espically if i am on the strip runin around but who gives two pieces of monkey crap about a little cig. butt? look at the empty pop cans and pop bottles and empty chip bags on the side of the road! cant you people find somethin better to B!tch about? its getting to the point where a man cant **** in a public bathroom without being criticized for something or another Wanna bitch about something come to WV and bitch about these tree huggers that are taking the only thing that WV has away...COAL...thousands of coal miners losing their jobs cause some damned environmentalist wants to save a pine tree or dont want you to cut the top of a mountain off.. Now thats a topic worth bitchin about so unless you wanna come to WV ride to and from work with me take my cig. butts with you and recycle them dont tell me what to do with them where to put them or how to smoke them!

I hate the smell of cigarette smoke. I wouldn't mind anybody smoking so long as I don't have to smell and breath that foul air. I'd be even happier if my insurance rates didn't keep going up so it can pay for cancers and other ills caused by smoking.
There's hardly anything worse than kissing a smoker.
It's a complete turnoff to see a beautiful woman standing around with a cigarette hanging from her mouth. It's even worse when she blows the smoke out her nostrils. Eeewww!!!!
I hate what smoke does to one of my rental units. It increases my cost (paint, carpet repair/replacement, scrubbing cabinets, etc.) and the result is my having to increase the amount of rent I charge. The security deposit is never enough to cover the damage left by heavy smokers.
I fully understand the addiction of smoking. What gets me is why do kids start smoking, even in this day? I mean, if you tell a kid, "Don't drink that because it's poison and it can kill you!" Why then does that same kid start smoking even though they know all the risks involved?
Both of my parents quit smoking cold turkey. One by choice, the other because of lung cancer. One is still living today. The other died after 8 years of suffering by not only the smoker, but by the family & care givers.
My cousin had a couple of friends die because of smokers. They were both firemen who were fighting a fire that was caused by a discarded cigarette butt on the side of a road.
Sure. It's just a little butt, but then an avalanche starts with just a tiny bit of ice moving just a tiny bit.
