I bought a new car back in '05 and traded it in on the truck and lost money on it. Never again.

I plan on keeping this truck for quite a while anyway.

If you know how to properly buy new, keep it in good shape, and properly sell it.

There is no 'hit' for buying a new vehicle.
I have sold 3 vehicles that I bought new. Amongst all of them, I have sold them at a loss of about $6,000 total.

Well, been gone from here for a long time but nice to see the same old still goes on. New prices really suck right now and Ford doesnt have much for incentives. Their MSRP seems out of line. Just been looking as my truck lease is now up and I'm in the market for a new one. Dodge comes in $10K less than a comparably equipped F150. WTF!

Think about 2 differences.

Which one has better quality and better resale.

Ford has always had the edge on that, but have you taken a look at the new Ram 5.7 hemi? Hmmmm.

Yeah I have... cool truck but it is still getting the same build quality ratings or in other words. It's kinda cheap. (Hence the price)

Let's check back in around July and see what happens to the price of these trucks if gas creeps back up into the $4.00 per gallon range -- which looks like a pretty safe bet from where we are right now!

They'll have F-150's stacked up around the dealerships like garden gnomes at the home center on the first day of spring! Rebates will sky rocket and we'll begin seeing all sorts of "Traded The F-150 In On A New Fiesta" threads in the General Discussion section......

If you buy new you need to hold it for a long time. Personally I hold my new cars until they start falling apart. 10 years minimum, 15 is more likely. I plan to replace at 10 years, but if I still like the vehicle I keep it longer. I had a similar discussion with the father-in-law. He was comparing his habits with mine and how he saves so much money. He buys used, but replaces his cars/trucks every two or three years. His average cost per year is over 3k. I buy new and hold a long time. My average cost was just over 2k per year.
