Question First Timer's Questions

Alright People,

Here I am, im 19, i live in Michigan with my parents still. (Gotta mooch as long as you can when your in college!)

Im currently pulling in about $350 a week in my current job,

and i have recently left the Nastiness of a 1988 Ford Ranger XLT for what seems to me as the comfortable bliss of a 1997 Ford F-150 Extended Cab Flareside 4x4 Offroad package Vehicle. I believe it has the 4.6l V8 in it also.

(hand-me-down from my Father who recently Purchased a Ford F-350)

Now, Im wondering,, what should i do with this thing?! ive got about $900 saved in the bank from my first two paychecks.
the interior is a weird Red-Maroonish color and the Exterior is a solid Black..

its got a few dings and whatnot,, but nothing i cant live with.. and Looks arent as important to me as Performance is.

Hey, thats the attitude you get from driving an 88 ranger. You learn to be happy with the little things (like an upgraded stereo system).

So My Question to all of you is, In order of most Bang for my Buck what should i do first?

Any and ALL suggestions would be MUCH appreciated.

thanks,

Arch

Thumbs up Performance Suggestions

Congratulations on the truck! I am sure you're going to love it! As for the red interior I hear it's very rare so enjoy it ok? Jimmy Lee & Mr Scot have the same interior as you do. If you want to get more performance, I'd say start with the Superchip & the K & N FIPK. Both are the usual mods chosen to increase HP. If you get the chance, stop in chat any nite after 9:30 & the guys there can give you additional advice. The exhaust is another mod to consider - they know a lot about that! Good luck - talk to you soon! Bye!

900 big one to spend on mods well you should be able to get a chip for the trucks compter and still have a little over 600 left for Exhaust and a K&N filter kit.

Cool

Yep,the big 3 really help in the bang for the buck area. the 3 being a Superchip, fipk, and exhaust. I have all three, with a K&N fipk, and a true dual exhaust under the bumper. If you go with true duals, keep your pipe size down around 2 1/4" so you won't lose low end torque. Don't forget to add
an H pipe in before the mufflers, really helps equalize the pressure between
each side of the engine. Most of all, congratulations on the truck, and welcome to f150online!! You'll be addicted to mods before you know it,LOL,,,,98

The throttle body cover will tell you what size engine you have, just pop the hood

The big 3 is the way to get things started then you can go to electic fan to replace the stock one will give you a couple horse power then you start getting into the big money stuff like super chargers heads cams and everthing else you can think of to get all the extra power you want.

Thanks a lot for all the help!

The Former Owner (a.k.a. my father) seems to think the gains would be neglegable from the upgrades..

basically he's telling me its a waste of money and that even if i put on the "big three" id only gain between 10-20 Horsepower and id be better of saving the money to buy myself a new truck with a bigger engine than the 4.6 because even with all the Mods the 4.6 still wont perform as well as the 5.0

so who knows whats gonna happen,, but i have a feeling if he Seriously still has a problem with me puttin the money into the performance,, ill start on the audio,, and by the time thats done and ive saved up enough again,, he wont still be attatched to the Vehicle (he just got his new truck 2 weeks ago)

thanks again for all the help!

It does sound like he's attached still There is a guy named Neal on this board who has nothing but bolt on stuff, and he runs a 14.53 in the quarter the last I checked. Granted he does have a 5.4,but it shows how well these trucks respond to strategically done modifications. Do what you like,it's your truck. But the "big three" do work Happy modding,,,,98
