I Need Some Advice

I've been a member of this website for a number of years, and now I need some advice not about my truck but about my Ford Edge. Last week the car started running rough. I took it to an auto parts place and used their diagnostic and it came back and said the coil on the #2 cylinder was bad. The next morning I took it to Ford and they ran a diagnostics and agreed. I left the car there for repair. The car is a 2007 Ford Edge with 34,000 miles and exactly 6 months out of warranty so the coil would not be covered. That's $400 bucks to fix the car. 5 hours after dropping off the car I get a call saying the PCM is really the problem, the coil is bad, however, the PCM is covered under the emission warranty and I'll still have to pay for the coil. Now, I don't feel I should pay for the coil since it may be the PCM that damaged it. I can never prove that though. So what do I do from here? Call Ford Customer Service? The car will not be fixed for two weeks minimum because the PCM's for that model Edge are on National backorder. I have a hard time with that too, but what am I going to do? I need some voices of experience please. Thanks for any advice.

I'm not sure a PCM would actually cook a coil.....???

Also, as you said, good luck proving it. My take -- I'd get my checkbook out and move on, as $400.00 wouldn't be worth the aggravation of fighting it.....

I would have them replace the PCM and buy a coil and replace it yourself. I'm sure you can find them on eBay or Rock Auto much cheaper than what Ford wants. Replacing a coil isn't too hard and should take only a few minutes.
