Maybe so but they are still on the hook for the floor mats getting wedged under the gas pedal.

Toyota just ruined for all manufacturers...

It also plans to consider three more requirements in future vehicles: mandatory brake override systems, standardized keyless ignition systems and mandatory data event recorders.

I wouldn't want my next truck to have any of that junk in it!!!!

Yeah I don't plan on getting rid of my truck anytime soon, if ever.

I'm with Stealth. If I did get rid of my truck it'd be for an 06-08. I do plan on keeping this truck for a long time though. Just hoping it lasts as long as I want it to.

Repairs to my old truck over the years are cheaper than a new fangled electronic junk truck.

all this tech. in these trucks is pretty neat but i would gladly take a late 70's truck anyday of the week over a new one.

because you can WORK on it yourself. and its not a PITA and those old trucks just run forever.

just my .2 cents

oh and my gas pedal has gotten stuck to my floor mat on my 97 before. unlike the Toyota drivers i reached down and unhooked it....really not that hard to do...

Those old trucks burned so much more gas. Back in the 80's, I remember talking to a guy who had a 70's 351 V8 4x4 and he said it got 9mpg all the time.

My grandpa had an 82 F150 and he'd fill it up twice a day because he had a loaded trailer on it 24/7. Although back then filling it was more of a nuisance than worrying aboiut paying for it.

I still think it was a programming error rather than something mechanical....yes there was the floor mats....but the software in the pcms wasn't interpretting data correctly which caused the acceleration issues....damn drive by wire systems.....

Mandatory brake override...hey I know a brake that is cable driven. Suprisingly it is called the EMERGENCY BRAKE. Go figure

Standardized keyless ignition. Why? So that there is no key to turn when there are problems?

Data event recorders. I think that will actually be a good idea. Just think about how many stupid lawsuits will be settled when you can just pull the throttle or brake input just before a crash.

That is why Fords haven't had any major recalls about it.

I honestly think they need to check the loose nut behind the wheel of these cars. Why is only Toyota having problems with this when most if not all of the newer cars on the road today using the drive by wire system and no one else is haveing the problem. And it's also not like this technology is anything new GM has been using this since the 90's when they introduced the Turbo Charged 6.5L Diesel in there pick ups with the computer controlled engines.

What they mean is this - standardize the way that keyless ignitions work. Right now, they operate in several different ways, especially in what you have to do to shut the thing off. It's not going to *require* keyless ignitions. I believe on a Toyota, you have to push the button and hold it in for 3 or 4 seconds to get it to shut off, you can't just push it and let it go.

Maybe toyota was just the whipping boy. Let's see:
1 GM was the largest car manufacturer.
2 Toyota surpasses GM.
3 GM gets into money trouble.:o
4 The G in GM becomes "Government"
5 D.O.T. & D.O.J. go after Toyota only.
6 Oh WOW GM is back...aint it great.
