Acadia National Park
Acadia National Park
Anyone been?
Exploring some options for a 10 year anniversary trip for my wife and I... thinking about going up that way and driving down the coast. It'd probably be in June.
Any areas through there that we don't need to miss? How about the National Park -- any areas there not to miss?

I rode my scooter there in '07 and camped at 'Seawall' for 9 days. (1,200 miles, one way)
It seemed to be a low-keyed place and I was there right after the 4th of July.
Really hot and humid and when the fog rolls in at night, forget about sleeping in a tent cuz of the fog-horns.
Since it's on the East Coast it gets daylight there about 4:00am that time of year.
Make sure to have some lobster dinners from the roadside stands. Excellent.

My wife and I went up two years in a row and loved it...sadly, it's been several years since.
Whale watches are cool if you see any, but are pretty much a bust if you don't. We've been on two of them - the first one was great, the second...not so much. You want to avoid them if you get seasick easily...lots of people puking on the them!
Bar Harbor is a cool little town, lots of outdoor restaurants. Lobster doesn't get much more fresh than that.
In the park, be sure to visit Otter Cliffs and Boulder Beach (especially at dawn),Thunder Hole, and Somes Walkbridge.
If you're into hiking and climbing, check out the Beehive.
We had our mountain bikes with us but found the carriage roads to be pretty boring as far as the riding goes (unless dodging horse poop counts), though the scenery is beautiful. If you check out some of the popular websites on Acadia, you'll find lots of recommendations.
We stayed in Blackwoods, and I don't recall any trouble sleeping or anything bothering us but like I mentioned that was several years ago.
As for something to do on the way up to Maine, make a stop in the white mountains region of New Hampshire near Conway, North Conway, and Mount Washington. You can hike or drive to the top. We camped in New Hampshire for the night to break up the trip (about 13 hours from Pennsylvania). It would be little out of the way, but the Kancamugus Highway is a beautiful drive as well.

And damn you...now I'm going to to have to go back to Maine....

The wife and I have been there a couple of times, but not recently. We loved it! Stayed in Bar Harbor, enjoyed the quaint cafe's and LOBSTER dinners. Fog was a problem on our morning cruise. Nice hiking in the park.
Ive never been, so I can't help you there. It is on our short list of destinations though. We've had people reccomend Cadillac Mountain.
I agree with wadespencer99 about the White Mountains. Beautiful country. We've hiked some of the mountains but want to do many more. My wife really wants to cross the NH border to Maine to hike Katahdin. That'll be on the agenda for the next few years.
What ever you do, have fun doing it.

Rock been there many times, what you need to do is drive up through the Adirondack mountains (lake placid, long lake, etc) and then up through Vermont, take the ferry to new Hampshire and on into maine Man what a beautiful drive. Arcadia is a great place plenty to do walking or driving through the park.. I hope you enjoy it and happy 10th!!!
