STP Additives??? WTH???

all of the Chevron stations here in my area have gone to a different brand of gas or another, mostly Marathon. i was out today filling my wife's suv (non Ford , i wish i could convert her) up at Marathon, and noticed on the pump it said "Using STP Additives". is this something like a sales pitch to keep business or what? i've searched and can't seem to find out what type of additives. anything close to Techron? does anyone know?

I always get my gas at Marathon. It's made in the USA so that's why I get it. I still put 2 or 3 bottles of Techron in my tank every oil change. Not sure if it helps or not.

I dont put any additives in it. If they are already in the gas then I guess I do. But I dont add any myself

The only difference in gasolene at any station is pretty much the additives. (Other then who owns it and where it is refined prior to purchase. Also if the tanks are dirty at like an old station, that can clog your filter and whatknot other problems).

I didn't see any info on Marathon's site but it could be to lubricate, clean, stabilize or all three. Believe me, they do actually put these in your fuel. It is not a "sales pitch" but is there to make your car run a little better. Hopefully to the point you can tell a difference and will go out of your way to purchase their fuel.

I use to get gas at Citgo in my old truck (Citygo's .9 miles from my house) because it was cheaper. Then I started getting gas at Marathon (.8 miles from my house) and noticed the truck ran better so ever since then I've got gas there and haven't gone back to Citgo.

The STP fuel system cleaner is nothing more than kerosene and a splash of Naptha...but that's not what's in the gasoline at the Marathon pump. It isn't even made by STP but uses the logo for marketing purposes. The additives are furnished by Afton Chemical. I have no information as to what these additives might be. You might check to see if it is a top tier gas. If it is, the chemistry must be fairly decent. If not, best of luck.

Which bottle do you add? I believe there's a 12 oz. and a 20 oz. also, do you use "fuel injector cleaner" or the concentrated stuff? I can tell you for a fact, Techron is one product (unlike so many) that truly does what it says it will. Don't find near enough of those products!

Shell also claimed some time ago that there gas ran cleaner etc therefore helping yr engine etc. Personally I really doubt if the amount of any additive (if any) in a gallon of gas is very small so it remains to be seen if it is really "better" than others. I do know that there is some differance in gas from place to place, a car that I had a number of years ago did not run so good on a specific brand of gas.
