Any 12 gauge reloaders here??
I've always wanted to get a MEC and start reloading. I do competitive trap shooting and when I practice I shoot around 200 round of AAs and it gets pretty expensive. I've been picking up the shotgun shells every time I shoot so I have accumulated about 4 trashbags full of shells and just haven't got the reloader yet.
The only problem with the promotional/store brand shells is either the velocity is way down or they use very soft shot. That causes more "frisbee's" and makes holes in the pattern. Plus alot of times you are only getting 1 oz. of shot, that's ok for cans and foot trap shooting. Quality loads are a real plus in the field or longer yardage shooting. That's why I like my home cooked shells.
yeah jgger its pretty hard for me to hit clays anyways with a 20" smooth bore barrel on my 870. most of the time we just walk around and plug stuff. kinda funny up close the shot doesnt open and blows a huge hole threw stuff.
Yea, I've got an 870 with a 20" and it works great for skeet and Quail. Won't even think about it for Dove though, I switch over to the 28" modified and that works really good!
Most of the time I shoot the over/under because I can change the chokes in it.

That is a good standard load. The lead usually runs to the softer side, it's less expensive. The harder shot holds it's shape better when it's pushed through the choke, The softer stuff can be smashed and become a frisbee.
That is more common on off brand cheap shells to use the soft stuff.
If what you're shooting is pushing 1200 fps, it's more of a mid grade shell. The real cheap stuff will be down 1120 or so. With a low velocity they can get away with the shot being a tad bit softer.
