In Maine, it's evidently "Kiss my butt" day, lol.
Talk about disrespect!

That is only a bit of the story. he was invited by the NAACP and declined as he considers them a special interest group.

This will all become that the Governor is a racist, although he has an adopted black son.

The link by the OP shows what a disgraceful state journalism is in. Clearly, there was more to the story.

Kingfish's link has MUCH more info, but still paints the governor in a bad light.

To summarize:

NAACP invites governor.

Governor rejects invitation - too busy.

NAACP invites governor several more times.

Governor says no each time - still too busy.

NAACP suggests governor is a racist.

Governor tells NAACP to kiss his butt. He's got a black son, invites people to talk to his son about the gov's view on race.

NAACP cries to the press, and charges governor with insensitvity, etc....

Press runs with it and flambe's the governor.

My advice to the NAACP: He may be an elected official, but he's still a human being. If he says no to your invite, suck it up and find another speaker, or maybe even have a dialog and book him for next year. Charging racism because you can't set the governor's schedule on MLK day is like blackmail. Charging racism against someone because they said no to your invite is also like crying 'wolf' too often. One day, people are going to stop listening. And yes, people who are not racist deservedly get pissed off when they get the race card played against them by the NAACP and the media. So put the race card away and try another tactic.

The Governor should of told them, "Go fish, I'm not playing the race card."

Yeah, because there was absolutely no honoring of MLK anywhere in the southern states today

Do we really need the full story? I wish more people would tell the NAACP off. They were needed at one time, but it seems now they cause racial tension any chance they get.

The TimesNews piece is exactly why they are called the "drive by" media by more and more people. They just throw this out there and take off. Facts and details aren't important. They've hit who they intended to hit, and are without a doubt planning the next assult.

It's really a shame that people like thoes at the TimesNews have to lie to get this attention because they are taking it away from the reasons we celebrate MLK's life. His dream wasn't just about blacks, it included everyone. Some people would rather not listen to what he actually said but just hear what they want to hear.

Content of character. It's about the content of ones character. Doesn't say too much for the "drive by's".

The NAACP is a special interest group. I just wonder why "colored people" still need advancement.

MLK vs Audie Murphy

Yet MLK preached non-violent protest, yet violence seemed to always be where he was.
Kids in school do not know who the most decorated soldier in history is but they are taught who MLK is! Hmmmmm wonder why????
