i live in sc and the legal limit is 27% and i have 5% over the factory 15% on the back and 5% on the front two windows and i have a vinyle brow on my windshield thats 11 inches long on my expedition, it makes it so dark inside my truck i have to run my head lights during the day so i can read my gauges lol. and ive gotten like 4 tint tickets in the past 4 years and ive just always paid them bc there only 250. but ive gotten two warnings recently one cop said he could give me a 450$ ticket and the other said 500$ so it might be time to change it which sucks! i just hate how the cops ride around with blacked out windows and we cant, they should change the law so that only people that have a felony on there record have to obey the tint law

At the end of the day if you get pulled over, roll all your windows down, turn on your lights, and be NICE.. Odds are you'll be geting a warning....

no limit on rear window

brad my recommendation is do the back 3 in DARK tint, my back 3 meter in at 1% then do your fronts at 15-20% and the contrast will be really noticeable, so to the untrained eye the fronts look legal

I may just have to do that. I honestly never expected to get a ticket for illegal tint because I have had it so long. I was beginning to think that they simply didnt care. Either way, I got a receipt written up at a local tint shop where one of my good friends tints windows that says I removed my tint and that it is now legal. . I am going to the eye doctor on tuesday morning to ask about a note for prescription of darker tint and we will see how that goes. If anything, I will just drive around that side of town with the windows down when I see the popo.

As freakin hot as it is in Tx you would think they wouldn't pay that much attention to it. Well that sounds like the constable in our county, he flashed his lights at me 2 mornings in a row for like 2 miles over.....2 miles.....really.

anything past the front side windows can be painted solid black if you'd like. Only stipulation is you have to have both exterior side mirrors on the vehicle

Side Windows to The Rear of The Driver
(Revised September 1, 2009)
These windows are completely exempted from regulation under the Texas Transportation Code.
Rear Window
A sunscreening device can be applied to the rear window of the vehicle if the following conditions are met.

1. If a motor vehicle is equipped with an outside mirror on each side of the vehicle that reflects to the vehicle operator a view of the roadway for a distance of at least 200 feet from the rear of the vehicle then there are no restrictions regarding the sunscreening devices applied to the rear window.

2. If a motor vehicle is not equipped with such mirrors then the rear window must meet the following standards:
* Sunscreening devices, when measured in combination with the original glass, must have a light transmittance value of 25% or more.
* Sunscreening devices, when measured in combination with the original glass, must have a luminous reflectance value of 25% or less.

This works well.
Another recommendation is what i did.

Instead of paying 190+ in tickets, remove the tint.
Go as dark as possible on the rear, and any behind the driver and pass doors.
Then get your headliner redone in a nice dark tone, go very dark grey or black.
Then get the darkest LEGAL length front eyebrow, and legal front windows.
If your dash is a light color i recommend a dark dash cover.
This combo gives the entire cabin a very dark cave like appearance, and your two legal windows will appear way darker from the outside.
As far as driving into the sun, get you a cheap pair of polarized sunglasses and keep them in the truck for driving. 15-20 bucks is ten times better than the tint ticket and youlll keep the 5 0h happy.

I have a layer of 5% on my rear doors and back glass. My fronts are legal and i have a 5% eyebrow within specs. My headliner has been redone in a very dark grey suede and it made the entire cabin very very dark. Most people think the fronts are illegal when they are in fact legal. From the front you cant see past the steering wheel very well.
Check out my pics... the truck looks dark.
old pic same tint, sun overhead and slightly behind

nice bright day, you can see the contrast.

same day, notice how dark it looks

evenin shot with the sun comin thru the drivers side

I'm going to be a real jerk here, but I'm entitled to express my opinion.

I absolutely hate riding in vehicles with dark tint, much less driving them. I think the reduction in outward visibility is dangerous - even MORE so at night. You must be the same people who put in illegal headlights and blind the crap out of the rest of us. Whether you like the laws or not, you need to follow them or pay the price. As far as getting waivers for eye issues, that's just bullpoop. If the use of contact lenses has caused sensitivity, get rid of them and wear glasses. Buy a quality pair of sunglasses. If your vehicle gets too hot when parked, get a good set of sunshades. If it's too hot when driving, turn the A/C on higher.

That's the way I feel and I'm sticking by it. I also feel that the cops need to follow the tint laws too!

Any of our 5-0 members care to comment?
