Getting easier to lock your keys in the car??

Just rented a brand new Dodge Ram 1/2 ton to drive to a jobsite 5 hours away today. Pull up to the office this morning, leaving the key in the ignition, and jump out. Come back out 2 minutes later and the doors are locked. My experience with newer vehicles is that the doors will not lock if the key is in the ignition. Roadside service told me that they've been having a lot of people calling in doing the same thing...even when the car is running. Driver pulls up to do something and leaves the car running, jumps out and slams the door, comes back 30 seconds later and the doors are locked with it still running.

It's not just a Dodge thing is it? Do yalls new Fords do this?

(I never have this problem...I have manual locks on my '98)

my 2006 xlt will not lock if the key is in the ignition and the truck is off, if you try to lock it it unlocks it self.

now I often leave it running in the morning because its cold outside, and I leave the window down but it ahs yet to lock up on me.

but I leave the window down for that reason, just in case.

Thats what my experience has always been with newer rentals that I get...if you leave the key in it, it will not allow itself to lock (at least the drivers door)
Apparently, this one is different. oh well....it's going to be another 2 hours before it gets unlocked. This trip can wait until next week...

Yea I dont know why they do that now. Maybe its supposed to be a new safety feature bur its more just a PITA!

@Titan 357 If I start my 06 with a door open all the doors lock, but if I start the truck with all the doors closed they don't lock till I start driving. WTH???? I've always been confused with this

I love my remote start.....
And
The keypad entry....

Locking them in just doesn't happen on my truck.

This is why I love the keyed entry pad that Ford offers -- I've locked myself out numerous times, and just have to enter my code to unlock the doors.

Now, if I was a GM man, then I could phone On-Star (at $$ per-year in fees) and they could do a commercial of me locking myself out of my vehicle. It would warm the hearts of millions....

My F-150 doesn't do anything like that, but it's an 02'. I do have an 08' Ford Escape in the fleet that did some weird stuff when we first bought it. I was able to configure when and how it would lock doors by going thru the command center options, same area where you reset the oil life %, etc. But yea, the key pad option is sweet, wish my F150 had that.

I have an '05 and the only way I can lock my doors with the key in the ignition is if I use the key fob. Doesn't matter if the truck is running or turned off.

If you have keyless entry on your door, you can also hit the 7/8 button and 9/0 button together and the doors will lock with while running

I have the ViperSmart start system on my truck, so if I accidentally lock my keys in my truck, all I need is access to my Android phone or any other BB, iPhone, and / or Android device to unlock it.

Theoretically, unless the battery dies, I should never have to worry about locking my keys in my truck.

Chrysler vehicles are horrible for auto-locking their doors for no reason, running or not.

What automatic locks? I like my old school truck - manual locks, manual windows.
