Tool is a given, and well lets be honest, A Perfect Circle is a much less awesome version of tool. They have a couple good ones but other than that

 

Children of Bodom is one of my favorites. Good melodic metal, fast riffs. Alexi Laiho is a sick guitarist.

They've got a new album coming out in March too.

In Flames is also good. Saw COB, In Flames, and Megadeth a few years ago during Gigantour. It was epic.

 

I think all the new "rock" they play around here (ie, mainstream rock) sounds the same and is way over played. I love the old classics such as CCR and such though. For "newer" stuff I really like "The White Stripes". I like red dirt country which reminds me a lot of southern rock and old country with bands like Cross Canadian Ragweed. My favorite band is the Avett Bros... Hard to explain what kind of music they play but its a mix of rock, country, bluegrass, folk, punk and traditional. If you look them up on youtube, do yourself a favor and watch live versions...they put on an amazing live show.
