Blowing an engine on a supercharged Mustang
Read the comments. He wasn't trying to blow it up. It had a bottom end issue that would have let go soon enough the way the car apparently is driven. Better to have it happen on the dyno than a racetrack. Yes the shift light was on, so what? It could be set for anything, plus it really isn't uncommon to run a dyno pull past your normal shift point on a car like this.
Did not read the comments.
How could they tell it had a low end issue after it blew up? If they knew it had a low end issue in advance, why rev the snot out of it on the dyno?
What rpm did it let go at? Sounded like it was screaming well past peak hp.
With how fast that thing builds revs and the high cost of the motor, I think the dyno operator needs to be a little more cautious.

Iduno, - I'd come uncorked before it blew, - not sure if I could have prevented it, probably not, not in time anyway. Obviously over revved. I've seen a few dyno runs, that one went way past the curve and they didn't back off. So they were trying to blow it ? What was that guy thinking ?? Is there any sheets on the run posted anywhere ?
The comments in this thread are quite hilarious.
Obviously people do not understand what the purpose of a dyno. This car was on a stock bottom end doing 800hp and they were pushing it to the limit and getting the tune right. The shift light might have came on, but that doesn't mean you only tune until that rpm point. You typically tune AT LEAST 300-400rpm past shift point, if not more. I shift at 5400ish, but I'm tuned all the way until 6000rpm.
Basically this was a car that was driven and used the way it was meant to be. It sucks it blew but that happens when your run your vehicles hard.

It's like when my stock transmission went in my truck. Did I expect it to go out when it did? No, but I also accepted the fact it was bound to happen with me putting double the factory power through it pushing 90K plus miles. It sucked, I was bummed for a day or two, but that's hot rodding.
Calm down boys I just commented on how long he held the car past shift point, I know you tune past shift point. Must just like jumping on people eh
Besides, the guy probably didnt even know what exact rpm he was at anyways. He was watching the screen and not the car

The screen i'm sure showed RPM, MPH, and AFR
No one(most of the time) is going to purposely blow up an engine like that. It wasn't expected, but when pushing the limits you have to realize it's going to happen eventually.
