Need help ASAP

im in class and we have a LIVE customer car.

he has a 2004 F-250 4x4 with a trion 5.4L Vin code in 8th place is L

i looked it up and did not tell me if it is 2V or 3V

The plugs he got from the store look just like my 1997 4.6L 2V plugs.

i really do not want to break any plugs if this is a 3V.

Help ASAP would be great.

i have searched i here and the Aricles i found the awesome write up on the 2004-2008 plug change step by step.

But as i said i could not find out if the L code is a 2v or 3v . any help would be awesome.

VIN "L" is a 2V. The 3V is VIN "5".

^ They way I look at it, he just learned something new. It doesn't matter where he achieved this knowledge, it will still help him in the future.

I'm trying to argue, I'm just putting in my $0.02.

i could have gone on all date or Mitchal on demand in class but i figured id get it quicker on here.

the fact it looks like a 97-03 5.4 should have told me it was a 2v but just wanted to make sure.

Autos 5 at my comm. college. its a trans class but were pretty much done with trans stuff so his buddy came in and wanted his plugs changed at 98K

didnt go to bad only had to pull the driver side fuel rail.

#4 IE passenger side under fire wall sucked. was the hardest one to get at.

all TQed with a TQ wrench to 15Ft-lbs the Specs said 11Ft-lbs but i rember 97-03 is 16Ft lbs so i jsut did that....

GLC- He's got enough threads on those '04 heads, does he still have to torque to 28 lbs. ?

GLC the truck will be back in monday ill call them and let them know before hand to get in there and re TQ them.

altho most of them i did i went a few times past the click because i had never used that TQ wrench before.....

hope non blow out on him its a landscaping truck that has 98K on it and has a 10,000lbs trailer on it since it was brand new off the lot with 58 miles on it.

Why did Alldata and Michels on demand both say 11Ft-lbs for spark plug Torque specs??

Even with the 8 thread heads, blowout is possible. 28 is an unofficial recommendation from blownoutsparkplug.com.

Q: Why do you prefer 28-32 foot lbs torque instead of the factory specification?
A: Over the past few years we have heard from many of our customers that they tightened their plugs to the correct torque but they still came loose. We worked with 10 other Ford Certified Master Mechanics and concluded that 28 foot lbs of torque would be satisfactory. We have been using 28 foot lbs of torque for many years and have never had one come loose or strip out. To verify that we would not damage the original threads we used a test cylinder head with good factory threads we applied over 100 foot lbs of torque to the spark plug without any failure.
