I've seen people have the diamond plate painted and it almost always has a spot scratched off or peeling. I would go with beige Line-X.

I would not go down that route at all. Firstly get a 'flush fitting' truck box, then get a coloured tonneau cover (not a solid one) that way u will still be able to get to the truckbox without taking it all off. U would also have the benefit of being able to carry things without being damaged by the weather. I kinda doubt that any kind of paint will stand up to general wear & tear.

"Toolboxes sometimes cost more to paint than the tool box costs. It depends on the color. A complete steel paintable toolbox might run $100 - $150 to paint. 1 pint of color (your Paint code) reducer, Clear, hardener, more reducer and sandpaper, tape. Materials might run close to $80 depending on the color. That doesn't leave very much for labor. I paint them all the time and hear all the customers complain about how much it costs to paint" just a toolbox". Chrome is not paintable and if your diamond plate is aluminum then the paint will not stick for very long unless we use an acid etch primer (more $). You might want to get a box that is steel if you want to sand and paint. Good Luck. Xavier Pena Jewel Auto Refinishing. 8558 Hwy 208 655-9747."
After reading that, I vote to remove the box and put the money into a tonneau cover.
