I thought that this was a gathering of intellectuals? Aren't they supposed to be diplsaying the best of our liberaly dominated educations system? This is what spending tens of thousands of dollars per child to educate gets you.

Well of course. You have to give the liberal gathering the benefit of the doubt, but thoes teabaggers, they're just all stupid followers of Beck/Limbaugh/Palin.

Ahh. Give the people at this liberal gathering the benefit of the doubt, then paint NASCAR fans with a broad brush. Very intellectually diverse.

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be true. In many places in this nation, they simply have the numbers on their side. There's a 50% urban HS drop-out rate in this nation, and a 70% national drop-out rate (Which is influenced strongly by the urban rate.) No wonder urban areas are such liberal strongholds.

Where'd you get your numbers?

and in 2006 Hispanics topped the list for drop-outs at 22.1%, 25.7% for the men and 18.1% for the women.

To Wittom, my point is, if you're liberal you're stupid, if you're teabaggin, you're racist, or stupid. If you are reasonable, and smart, you pretty much aren't liberal or teabaggin, you are moderate, and have no one to vote for, so you vote for Ron Paul and Obama, and say to yourself, "this oughta be interesting."

Honestly though, i think most people dont know jack about economists from history, or present day. There's probably people who got elected tonight from both parties that cant answer this question.

From memory, but I looked it up again. Turns out I should have said "on time graduation rate". (Sue me. I'm getting old. lol) I assume some of these kids get a GED eventually. The link below is just one article that covers the subject, and not the original from which I read of it earlier in the year.

Sadly, many of them get their GED in prison. I don't have exact data in front of me but the percentage of people that go into prison for the first time without a high school diploma/GED was around 75% or more if I remember right.

Most prisons require those that are incarcerated to work toward their GEDs while they are there.

Of course that does little to help them get a job since many employers put applications of ex-cons in the circular file (understandably so) and their opportunities are limited (of their own doing).

With this election, I agree that the candidates were more polarizing than normal. I don't think Liberals are stupid (I am usually considered one here). I consider myself a Progressive but that aside.

I do not like the idea of removing all of the safety nets we have for people (unemployment & Social Security) as they do provide for people and allow them dignity even in a bad time. No one is getting rich off of either and if they are able to work they more than likely would since they would make more money.

I often in the past have supported Republicans. However, the ones that bother me are many of the Tea Party members. These aren't your traditional Republicans. These people are much more fringe than the norm. Candidates like Joe Miller, Christine O'Donnell, and Sharon Angle would normally never be considered for office.

I think it will be more interesting to see how the GOP works to keep the Tea Partiers that did win in line. The GOP is usually pretty cohesive and a few rouge candidates could make compromise tough.

I did lose a lot of respect for the GOP in the viscous attacks on Clinton...again I will be the first to admit he is slimy (personally) but impeachment is over the top for lying about an affair. The Gov. of SC did much worse in abandoning his office and pursuing his affair. Most people will lie about affairs and such to cover their butts. Whitewater and all of that never went anywhere and was much more egregious than the articles of impeachment.

This election more than most left many that are centrist holding their nose and voting for the lesser of two evils.

I wish that was the case here, it would be a step in the right direction.
I was a CO in a Federal Max Pen for 17 years and once incarcerated, these guys can pretty much do whatever they want.
Sure there are incentives to work or get an education, but a guy could theoretically just stay in his cell all day and do nothing and still get level 1 pay
(1.65 a day or whatever)

We did have quite a few Americans in our system and they did say compared to US prisons, ours was a picnic to do time in.
There's something to be said for the chain gangs.

This is OT, but you guys want to hear something completely messed up? We just convicted a Base Commander of CFB Trenton for the murder of a few women here in Ontario (big time sexual predator), and the guy got life in prison, and gets to keep his $12,000 per month military pension.
How you like them apples?

He should have plenty of money in his account for the prison commissary! Won't have to wait for the family back home to send him $20.00!

Since he gets some nice threads, 3 square meals, a roof over his head and some cool bling to wear...the $12k a year should be pretty comfy! You may have an uptick in crime from other vets looking for such a good deal.

I guess the 12k a month was his salary, but his pension while incarcerated will be 60k a year, still pretty good money.

Inmates are only allowed to spend a maximum on canteen items every 2 weeks, not exactly sure what it is, maybe $120, so he will bank some serious coin over his life sentence.

I'd like to the government strip his pension or give it to the victoms families.

Should anybody wonder how we manage to elect total idiots every time we get a chance? Did the gene pool for any of the folks interviewed have a deep end? I think not. Sigh.
