So you are saying that your 'sleep aid' of choice, marijuana, has NO other side effects but the munchies?

Ummm, OK, sure, if you say so.

Besides lung cancer, heart attacks, memory loss, learning disabilities and various life ruining non-health problems people face when they get addicted to an illegal drug?

Knock yourself out with google - there is plenty of info out there about adverse effects of marijuana. You can start with the link below.

But yet doctors prescribe it to cancer patients and people with other chronic illnesses. The one flaw of your link is the .gov Of course the government is going to feed you a bunch of bs about it. It's illegal. You can't overdose on it and while the possibility of lung cancer is present from smoke the same goes with cigs but yet they aren't illegal?

lung cancer? Sure, if you use it in Bob Marley proportions. How about tobacco? It has a far greater chance of causing lung cancer and other nasty things and it is legal. Alchohol has terrible effects on the body and has horrible social consequences, such as violence, domestic and otherwise, poverty plus collateral harm and death to others from drunk driving and it is legal. As to the rest, please tell me which drug or stimulant (legal or illegal) or just about anything which won't have the same effects you've listed above when used in large amounts daily. You appear to assume (incorrectly) that anyone that smokes the herb is an addict and spends all of their time stoned. Methinks you must have seen the movie "Reefer Madness" and actually took it seriously!

Most prescription drugs have a list of nasty side effects as long as your arm and that's from prescribed dosage. How about something as common as acetaminophen? Possible serious permanent liver damage from dosages of more than 4 grams. ASA has put me in the hospital. Please climb down from your high horse and spare me the rediculous government propaganda and rhetoric.

regards

Doctor's prescribe it to cancer patients because one of the SIDE EFFECTS is to reduce nausea.

What specific lies about MJ do you see in the .gov link I posted?

On the flip side, which of the 'bad' things the .gov site says about MJ do you think might actually be true?

You can't overdose on THC? You sure about that? I will agree it is hard if not impossible to get a fatal OD from smoking weed, but it IS absolutely possible to have a bad experience from smoking/consuming too much (overdosing)

Yes, cigarrettes and many other legal products have side effects. So what? I didn't make the claim cigs had no side effects. Another poster is the one that claimed that marijuana had no side effects except for munchies. He was wrong.

Just for the record, I made no claims about other (legal) products compared to marijuana.

YOU are the one saying the only side effect of marijuana was munchies. You are wrong.

Yes, the side effects of marijuana users are worse among addicts/daily users than they are among rare/occasional users. That is hardly proof that there are no side effects besides the munchies (your original claim).

Spare me the rationalizations that your 'sleep aid' has no side effects. Bottom line is the more people that smoke pot, the more will suffer its harmful side effects.

"Not surprisingly, marijuana intoxication can cause distorted perceptions, impaired coordination, difficulty with thinking and problemsolving, and problems with learning and memory. Research has shown that, in chronic users, marijuana's adverse impact on learning and memory can last for days or weeks after the acute effects of the drug wear off.2 As a result, someone who smokes marijuana every day may be functioning at a suboptimal intellectual level all of the time."

Quote above from the much hated .gov website I linked earlier. To me, this seems like a an accurate description of some of the side effects of smoking pot.

I guess I should have included the disclaimer "Unless used in high doses for prolonged periods".

Silly Me...

Why are you guys bickering about MJ when it's clear that there is a miracle drug out there?

shoot. Ive been smokin pot for 15 years and ive never become addicted...

We all know where these debates go so why even get into it. Yes pot can be harmful to you, but so can almost everything else in this world.

Keeping on subject, one of my friends woke up to find her husband spinning in circles on his back in the kitched eating a bag of potato chips. That stuff is scary. I am suprised you havent heard of someone doing something really messed up while on ambien. I guess its kinda like when you are drunk and black out and dont remember being an butthole to everyone at the party... not that ive done that. I dont drink... that much... anymore.

Uh, those are pretty much the normal reactions to smoking pot, the same as they are for having a few drinks. I would hardly call them "side effects".

I think this is getting to be more than a little O.T. for the thread.

Nuff said...
