masterbeatty* yeah i was driving it and it felt like a miss i told him we said oh will figure it out. swaped coil packs and wires off my truck. messed with the fuel regulator and o2's made no diff. looked in the harness didnt see anything. finaly did a compression test only 30PSI on cyl 1. 125PSI on cyl 2. so when that plug melted on number 1 it took some valve with it. felt bad because i was driving it but he said it would have done the same thing to him.

i guess running 87oct when your tuned for 93oct is a bad thing eh?

he doesnt get along well with triton motors.....rember his expy? he blew his first 5.4 up the oil pump went bad....

we pulled that out put togther a PI5.4 ran great for about a min then a bolt fell into cyl 1 and bent a valve. pulled the head off coulnt get it timed right again bent 3 more valves got it right finaly found out we had the wrong head gaskets.....

sooo he worked on a trade for a running 5.4 completle so we set it in and it ran fine. one trip up north lost 3 main bearings....

finaly sold the truck for a 78 bronco and i was so happy i hated working on that expy

then he got his 97 was in ruff shape but he got it cheap fixed alot of the probs had it running good for a while we tuned it with the sniper he tuned for 93 and i always tune for 87 and i guess that gave it some greif making a trip to his new house.

sorry for the book but yeah i keep telling him he should not own a car or truck with SOHC he needs to stick with old school OHV he seems to not blow those up.

Yea, that's one thing that has to be right with these engines,- the timing. Of course a bolt in the cylinder doesn't help lol.

timing and oil. these motors get mad without oil. he had a 94 bronco 351 he ran on only 1 QT of oil. it was knockin and rattling but he put 4 more in and all the sounds went away and it ran fine till he sold it.

i mess with him about his F-150 i tell him to check the oil all the time. i check mine everytime i put gas in it.....speaking of witch im 1000 miles over due for an oil change.... thats not good.

oh Jbrew im kinda confuzed about this on my 94 Grand marquis with a 4.6L it said use 10W40 but my F-150 with a 4.6L says use 5W30?? what happens if i go to the thicker oil?
