Dumping the d3000 and getting a d200
Well... after getting sick and tired of using manual options on the d3000 the hard way, I almost went and got a d90, but I wanted something better. A d200. Why? Magnesium case , water-resistant seals, and a nearly bullet proof record of reliablility the d200 offers.
I've met 3 people in the past month that swear by the d200, and it convinced me to get it. Especially after we all drew the d3000 to shame by it's clunky menu-driven options that leave one to go crazy in manual mode.
The d3000 is a novice DSLR. Over priced, but still a decent camera. But the d200 shoves it out of the way completely with the ease of use in manual mode.
I bought it from a private seller that only used it in his lab for portraits. In fact, it still has the factory seals on most of the camera. Only 9,144 actuations on the shutter! Hence broken in, but brand new. No scratches or anything on this thing. Never taken outside, and has everything included like the original box with the matching S/N, and it is not a reman or rebuilt camera.
I can't wait!
I'm planning on selling the d3000 as a body only with a couple extras, and it will get me this camera for just about nothing.

You won't regret it. The c3po is very hard on dilithium crystals. I couldn't get anymore than a few lightyears out of them. The new r2d2 with its turbo encapsulator is the bomb!
A d3000 and d200 are digital cameras.
So I'm trading my d3000 (c3po) for a d200 (r2d2)...

I'm a long time Nikon user myself. Just my $.02. The D200 was a good camera when it came out in 2006. It was replaced in early 2008 by the D300, which itself was replaced by the D300S. Going from the D3000 to a D200 is more like a step down, or a lateral step at best. Build quality may be a bit better with the D200, but thats about it. It's way too old, imo. Look to the D300s if you can swing it with the budget. The D90 (getting a bit old now too) or the new D3100 are safe bets too, if you don't want to spend the $1600 on a D300S.
I really want a d300s but I can't justify it... maybe if I use it, the d300s might linger on me....
I might keep the d3000, but I will see how I like using both. If not, I might sell both and get a d300s... depending on things.
*sigh*
Photography is such a money pit... lol
