Rechargeable flashlight
Rechargeable flashlight
Its my dads birthday coming up and me and my mom are going to get him something smaller as he is getting himself tires/leveling kit/bushwackers, lol. I want to get him a good rechargeable LED flashilght.
I looked at getting the Polystinger DS LED from streamlight. I like the fact that it has multiple charging bases, and the multi mode switch, the c4 led, and car charger. I DONT like the fact that it has a ni-cad battery. Those batteries are horrible. I had a surefire l7 that has those batteries, I can get about 30 min out of it after a year of service.
There is also a Pelican 7060 light, BUT it only has one setting, isnt as bright, BUT it has a lithium ion batteries.
It needs to be something that is mountable in a truck with a direct wire connection availiable. (I guess I could always cut the cig cord).
Anyone have any suggestions? Streamlight/Surefire doesnt have lithium ion batteries offered, so unless there is a damn good review im gonna try to stay with a lithium ion battery.
P.S. I wanna try to keep the cost around $100-$150.

Did you look at the Streamlight Stinger series? My friend has one and absolutely loves it

I haven't heard any negatives about the nickel-cadium battery they use either.

I've got an Inova T4 mounted in the console of my truck. I hardwired a power adapter (cigarette lighter plug) to the actual cigarette lighter outlet and ran the power cord of the light to it. I've had it about two years and it'll still run more than two and a half hours on a charge.
I use a rechargeable Maglight that I keep in the charging station in the truck. It's considerably brighter than a 5D cell Maglight with the Krypton bulb. One advantage of a 5D cell is that if you are approaching a car or an unknown, you let it ride on your shoulder. Any problems and you already have a short bat in your hands and just have to bring it down on somebody to get their attention. I have a preference to Maglight because I've used them for decades and any issues at all, I just return it for a new one or they fix it for free.
Here's a hunting review of the different flashlights. It may help you decide on what you want. I'm not a fan of the LED lights. They run forever on a battery, no doubt, but over time they seem to get dimmer and lose their brilliance. I'm also not a fan of the cool blue light they put out. But that's just me. I have 2 Streamlight Ultra Stingers and love them. I use them all the time. Definitely recommend Streamlight.

I've got a Surefire P6 and a Coast Led Lenser T5 and love them both. The T5 is excellent because it has 95 lumens and its got 3 hours of battery life. But the best part about it, the battery is a simple AA battery. It's got a special capacitor that up's the voltage to 4v to the LED. Which leads me into the Surefire P6 downfalls... the downfalls of that P6 is the batteries. It takes expensive and hard to find CR123A batteries. In fact two of them! Also it only 65 lumens for 60 minutes. Plus it gets wicked hot. They are both built extremely well.
I also got a Coast Led Lenser P14. That thing is one sick SOB. I kid you not. It will seriously blind you and it is just one sick flashlight. Plus it takes 4 simple AA batteries in a cartridge and it has two variable light settings. It's 212 lumens with a sick battery life of 100 hours. Again, it it is built extremely well.
