WOW I just thought that Mercury's were upscale Fords i.e the Mountaineer was just an upscale Explorer. i guess when i get "old" and its time for me to move "up" to a Mercury I guess that will be a Lincoln now!

They better step up the bottom line then.
Fusion first gen was basic lamps for example where milan was projector heads and fogs, with led tails.

The entire Mercury lineup was a bit pointless IMO. Slightly nicer than Ford, but not as nice as Lincoln. I'm willing to bet that old people buy the most Mercury's.

The writing has been on the wall for Mercury for the past few years. I am suprised that it lasted this long. Mercury hasn't had its own identity in years.

I wonder if the will make a Lincoln version of the Crown Vic. I see a lot of the Marquis around, especially since they stopped selling the Crown Vics to anyone other than fleet/police.

I love my mountaineer, certainly made it easier to avoid all the stripped down explorers. And I'd take a 69-70 cougar convertible with all the buttons any day.

Already thinking about an aviator or navigator, so I must be getting old :o

Does dropping the line hurt or help the used value?

I wonder what this does to my father-in-laws '51 Mercury pickup.

The end of Mercury will hurt the value of current ones (like the ones built in the past 5 years) but it shouldn't hurt the classics.

The fact they kept Mercury around this long is amazing. There was no identity to them, just re-badged Fords. Kind of like all the duplication at GM for all those years.

I just hope they focus on building better Lincolns like the old days. Most of them are just re-badged Fords these days too. Bring something unique or at least better than the Ford.

I would like to see a continuation of the Mark VIII to the Mark IX with a rear drive large coupe. Why they phased them out is stupid. They were one of Ford's best vehicles.

Mercury was bound to be killed off. Today, you can get very nice versions of most, if not all, Ford vehicles. If you want luxury, then buy a Lincoln. I don't see a space for Mercury. Killing off "middle ground" brands such as Oldsmobile and Pontiac was one of the only smart things GM has done.

No dealerships will be closed as a result, there are no Mercury only dealers in North America. I hate this, though, I am a fan of Mercury.

Mercury has been irrelevant for upwards of 20 years. Ford will be much better served by using the money that has been sunk into supporting this tired brand to fill-in holes in the Ford line up! Some nice versions of Fords with a little more pizzazz than a normal version will likely sell better and be more profitable than anything that came from the "red headed stepchild" of FoMoCo......
