Check out this load of bull.

I especially like the paragraph that say a clean air filter isn't important.

While some of it may be true, but sometimes I open a web page, and just wonder where they find the experts that write this stuff

From the link:

"An amazing 65 percent of Americans surveyed support a mandated transition to a 50-mpg fuel economy standard by 2025. "

I submit this has proof that an amazing 65 percent of Americans are complete idiots.

Look at it this way: An amazing 99.9% of Americans currently refuses to buy the SmartCar, and would resent the hell out of it if that's all the government allowed them to buy.

Reporting is getting worse and worse. I do believe these folks dont even do research. I think they just type what sounds good. We could easly obtain 50 MPG if it wernt for GOVERMENT regulations and BS. Case in point and I know there are other vehicals out there getting this as well.

Modern fuel-injection engines don't get economy benefits from a clean air filter.
This is actually true to a point - till it gets clogged up enough to restrict airflow to the point where the engine is actually starving for air. The PCM system in conjunction with all the sensors controls the mixture according to how much air the engine is taking in.

However, I disagree with this one:

Using premium fuel improves fuel economy.
Yes it CAN - if the knock sensor allows for more timing advance. It certainly does on mine - about 1 mpg.

I agree with the comment about reporting getting worse and worse.

While the author has stumbled upon a few truths, it is clear they have no idea what the hell they are talking about. 50 mpg CAFE requirement by 2025? With current safety standards? lol.

Can't wait for the author's next article. Let's get the government to require every employer to provide teleportation devices for their employees! Then no one will have to drive to work! This is so important, the government should require it by Memorial Day, 2010! 65% of Americans agree!

.
But then you go back to doing maintenance and wearing the engine out.
That does hurt the mileage.
I did think about that one, but it is poor maintenance period.

Judging by a few grammatical errors and the use of words like "Pshaw", I wouldn't take this as a credible source of information.

I don't think anyone with any knowledge of engines would take this as a credible source.
As far as it goes on running a dirty air filter, you may as well stuff a potato up the tail pipe to equalize the flow. That way there wouldn't be as much stress on the valve seals.
