Wanting To But A Toy
Wanting To But A Toy
Well im starting to get more into the Rock crawling scene only because im tired of cleaning the mud. Its alot easier to clean the dust off so im just going to post this link of a jeep this guy said he has put in around 15k and was thinking about selling. He pm me and said he will lose a lot by selling it by i was also wondering what you guys think is a good price to get it for or somewhere decent? Seems to me its a sweet build but some of you with more knowledge on the trail riding side of things chime in here.
Thanks,
Josh

looks like a pretty cool jeep but idk how he quite got 15k into it. i saw that he built up his first set of axles with new shafts, lockers, and stuff but none of that's on it anymore. i don't think i saw but do you know if his 1 tons were built up when he got them?
i think it would be a pretty fun toy if you got it for the right price.

You and me are on the same boat. Im tired of taking my DD through the mudd every weekend and having to spend all of sunday trying to clean all the mudd off. Im lookin at a jeep myself. not as nice as that one. But it looks like the one your lookin at should be fun!

Yeah im still looking but im just way to tired of all the cleaning. I mean i can spend 10k into a jeep already done or buy a cheap one and build it myself. Mud scene is fun in all if you have a truck you dont care about and not a DD. My dream is to build a 250 on rockwells and some tractor tires and mud bog it. But for now im getting into the the rock crawling scene because its fun as heck. Even if you roll and you got a 4/5 point and a cage.
I thought you were going to germany, lol.
And I see that the Moroc off road racing event got you involved in an expensive hobby.

I would look more into a Wrangler, or CJ. Lot more options, and lot less electrical going on up front to worry about. You can find a nice wrangler for around 12, that is ready to roll. Or find one around 5k that has some stuff done to where you could drive it, while you build it the way you want. Plus, you wouldn't have to worry about someone else's fab work, and wether they did a crappy job.
I guarantee, if you bought that cherokee, or any other already built rig for 10 or so. You'd spend 2-3 right off the bat, just changing crap out you didn't like, or work for you.

I'm telling you Rocks are way better than the mud any day of the week.
I can't see what all he has done with the XJ because pictures are blocked here at work. But I can tell you right off the bat, the engine and transmissions in those things are nearly rock solid (that is if the tranny is an aw-4). The major disadvantaged to the cherokee is it's a unibody vehicle. Meaning the body is one peice with the frame, the problem lies when you flex these things everything flexs, and sometimes decides to stay that way.
I'm sure if the guy has that big of axles under it, he has taken all the proper steps to structure the frame and body to be much stronger than stock. Cherokees are a great vehicle because you can pile in and have all the trunk space for coolers and spare parts.
My father and I went from having a cherokee to a wrangler, and while we love the wrangler we miss the cherokee. Actually we removed the engine and transmission from our cherokee and put it in the wrangler (had a blown engine when we bought it). Like JNC995 there are probably many things your going to decide you wish were done different. Thats the disadvantage to buying an already built vehicle, its set up for someone elses preferences. But if your in Germany right now and possibly don't have the ability to build one even at home this is your only option. If it looks like the guy put a lot of thought into what he did and built it good I'm sure it would be a great vehicle. Cherokees' are great trail rigs.
