F-150-Miles/Value
F-150-Miles/Value
So I thought I'd throw this out there for opinion. I have a commute that is 80 miles round trip, each day. I now have a new 2010 F-150 Lariat and 2010 Mustang GT. My original plan was to split the mileage between the two and likely move up to a new 5.0 GT or a GT 500 at the end of 2011 or in 2012. I have no plans at this time to trade the F-150 anytime soon, but you know how that goes, you never know.
What would you do? Would you split the miles evenly or put more on the F-150. From a gas mileage perspective, there really is only about 2-2.5mpg difference on average and that is if I take it easy on the Mustang. Which one do you think will hold its value better?

I love my Mustang GT's and I love my F150....just depends what mood I'm in on what I want to drive....in the long run I think they will both be around the same value. Great vehicle choices btw
I'm partial to FOX bodys myself....

Thanks. I love both too. I have to say though, the 5 speed manual in the Mustang is a hoot, but it is also a PITA in Dallas traffic. About half my commute is normal speed on freeway (80+ in the stang!) and the other 20 miles is bumper to bumper stop and go. The manual can get frustrating in the stop and go.
Right. I'd commute in the F150, since you said you don't plan on trading that anytime soon, but do plan on trading the Mustang. Keep the value up best you can on the Mustang. If you plan to keep the F150 for a while, then miles\value aren't really an issue, just maintenance costs. Maybe still treat yourself on a Friday that is a really nice weather day and drive the Mustang. Seems that's what most of the guys who have nice secondary cars do at my work.

They all depreciate.
It's the how modern day automotive resale/trade works.
I'd say the best thing to do if you want to get the max for your money is to sell one of them now on Ebay. Then invest the money into a CD or savings account.
All you need to get to work is one vehicle.

Wish I had that dilemma!! Gee, should I drive the brand new F150 or the brand new GT??? But, which one do I want to put miles on??Wish I still had my '86 GT.. Traded it for the F150... So there was my choice...

I'm just bustin' your ***** some, but really, who cares about 'value' and low miles unless you are going to keep it in a barn for the next 30 years and sell it on Barrett Jackson.... Drive what you want when you want to drive it and be happy! I know I would be in your situation!
Just sayin'..

I know, it sounds pretentious but timing was right for the purchase of both. I have to say, the F-150 still has to be the best value out there on the market. Where else can you get $10-12K off the MSRP and still have such a good vehicle? I laugh at the Toyota ads that seem to be about 50% of the ad traffic on the radio now. $2K off MSRP on a Camry. Ooh, better run out and get one!
In all seriousness.... I wouldn't worry about driving the pi$$ out of either vehicle.. Unless you trade within the next 2 or 3 years, the mileage is not going to really be that big of a factor IMO...
I hear you on driving the stick in traffic!! That was what prompted me to make sure I got an automatic! The GT was a 5 speed and that whole gas, clutch, brake in first gear for an hour got that left leg a workout!! But I do miss that left pedal at times!
At least now it's just let off of the brake and idle forward and hit the brake again... If I'm lucky, I have to hit the gas every now and then!
Gotta love Seattle traffic and specifically hwy 167!
