buy or wait?

so my dad bought a 08 f-250 crew cab with the 8ft bed with the 5.4 two years ago and hates it because it has no power and gets horrible mileage.

recently he has started to look at 30 ft trailers for a hunting cabin

heres a couple questions, does he

a) try to sell it privately outright? he still owes i think about $28k or so on it

b) take it in and buy a 2010 f-350 diesel, (just drove a 2010 f-350 crew cab, 8ft bed king ranch loaded with all goodies yesterday and could get it for around $45k possibly a little less)

c) wait for the 2011 but wait awhile because he wont be able to afford the payments because of the price of a new lariat ~$60k

d) just live with his decision? try to get the trailer over the mountain passes then would just be on flat ground for the most part

thanks guys

Why does he have to have new? Why not buy an old 7.3L diesel to tow the trailer and get a programmer for the 08??

Put the 08 f-250 crew cab with the 8ft bed up for sale at the price he needs to make it work. If there demand is there, then it will sell and he'll have the money to make a deal on a new one.

yeah thats what im kind of thinking

but really the only difference between the two trucks is the engine, i mean the exterior is nearly the same the interior too, just with updated buttons and a big center console

I'd avoid the YM 2011 as the F Series gets all new engines and transmissions. The first year model usually has gremlins that the real world shakes out that testing doesn't. The YM 2012 will be a completely new truck for the F150 and I'd expect major changes on the F-250+ as well. Unless it is a daily driver, buy something used in a diesel. He'll get more power but don't expect it to be a cheaper ride. While diesels make more power, they cost more per mile to drive in initial costs and maintenance. If it is a daily driver, he'll learn to hate it, too.

oh yes i forgot abou thte tranny in the 2011 too.

it will not be a DD, just used for hunting and fishing, trips would consist of about 400 miles round trip with half being mountain pass and half being flat ground

I don't know, it depends upon the mileage. I just traded a 2010 4.6 3V XLT Screw with 11000 miles on it for a 2010 Lariat and got $2K less than I paid for it in July of 2009 and got $10K off the MSRP of the Lariat. Now I know this is a 2008 model he is referring to, but it alls depends.

It's also a F-250 with a 5.4 that we are talking about.

Yeah it's a 2008 F-250 crew cab FX4 17,500 miles with nav leather and canopy etc. Looked it up on nada and Edmonds and usual trade in value is $27k.

Now I know they won't give him that but that's just what it says

Man, that's a nice truck, why did he get the 5.4 in the first place? Why is the 5.4 even an option for that truck?
