Try that dealer, people will trade in some nice bikes when they upgrade and don't wanna bother with selling it....A Honda CRF 250F should do alright, but I do prefer the race bike suspension, it's stiffer and has a better rebound, but for trail riding you should be ok with the 250F. Now for the Yamaha's idk what the different names are for it I think it's TT (offroad?) and TTR (race?) or something like that.
I'd also try craigslist for your area. as far as i can see for East Texas there are some nice bikes starting at 1600 to 2500 that you could probably talk the people selling down a bit about.

I would go Yamaha if you still wanted to purchase one, Hondas are notorious for their valve problems that they just wont seem to fix and continue to run their typical steel valves. I have heard guys that won't purchase a Honda for that single specific reason.

The TT models have electric start and are off road bikes, the race bikes are the yz(2stroke) and YZF(4stroke). Craigslist and cycle trader are good places to start looking as well as the dallas morning news in the classifieds since your close to DFW.

The YZ models are the race bikes. The WR models are the off-road/eduro type bikes.

Remember that the WR models are seriously de-tuned compared to the YZ models. I have not ridden the WR250 yet but I can't imagine how slow it would be compared to a YZ250F if it is detuned and weighs 260lbs
