Depends on what he intends to do with it. The output continuous is only 3500 watts which isn't much. And it can only run at 50% load for 8 hours. Sounds like a cheap POS to me. I don't know if this would work long even as a contractors generator working saws and nail compressors. But if all he's looking for is lights for a couple of hours- it'd do, but that's about all.

If you are buying a generator then when you use it, you will most likely be depending on it.

The generator I have is 20hp, can't remember the power range because I am out of town but it is enough to power about 1/3rd of my house continuously.

Those prices seem just fair.
I have the next larger size, 6500 a Troybilt.

I've never been able to calculate how much I was taxing it.
Judging from those run times (8hrs) I'm not taxing it much.
I run 13 hours on a 5 gallon tank.

Like said above if he wants it for continous power it won't last long. At our marsh hunting camp we have burned up about 15 cheap ones until we broke down and bought a Honda.

Thanks to all for the help. He only needs backup power for his house and needs to have e-start due to his age. My wife and I are buying him this because he has little money and he really needs to have this because no one except my wife, I and a few others even bother to look in on him. It sucks growing old in america it seems everyone is to busy to just check on the elderly… I just want him to be able to turn the key and go i will do all maint and run it from time to time when i stop by to check on him.

My only problem has been storing it full, even with sta-bill I had a no start condition.

Now I store it empty and if I haven't used the gas can for a couple of months, I dump it in the truck and store fresh gas. It's easier than draining the tank.

Rather than the time/noise running it, you could make fresh gas a part of your look-in routine. As long as what you drive there takes reg unleaded. You'd need two gas cans to work that.

p.s.
This is the way I want it done when you start looking in on me.
Also, mine is a pull cord and I don't want no cussin' on my property, just so you know.

I noticed you mentioned E-start.

Mine has E-start and it hasn't worked once... since it is only used for emergency the battery on it just sits there dead and the same for the ones at work... dead as can be.

You make sitting in the dark and cold sound like a pleasant alternative.

I'll be looking out the window thinking, 'Man, I hope he don't show up.'
