It gets you a no-haggle price on a new Ford.

Either you, or a family member works for Ford. The Ford employee gets so many PIN #'s per year and can extend them to family members.

You must submit some information like SSN to your family member and they can then get you a PIN. Once you have this you can go to any Ford dealer and use it to get a low, no haggle price on any vehicle.

My wife's uncle works for Ford and got us X Plan pricing on a 2010 Escape, it was awesome! Such a great experience to go to the dealer and throw that bad boy down and not have to worry about some douchebag salesman being...well, a salesman.

Now it was explained to me that the person providing the PIN had to be a family member, and somewhat close, not like some distant 4th cousin. However I recall a time on these forums that folks were giving out X plan PIN #'s, some members that worked for Ford, not sure how that worked out.

And yes, I have been a member for a little while....

What are the prices like? Ive seen conflicting reports on the net...some say just below MSRP, some say at dealer cost, some say below dealer cost.

X plan price and A plan price are both listed on the invoice. Ask to see the invoice. Used to be at the right bottom corner.

It's value is heavily dependent on the vehicle you're looking at and the time you are buying it.

In most situations, you should have little trouble getting a F-150 for less than X-Plan pricing -- even when you're haggling on your own. However, on a vehicle that's "hot" (think the S197 Mustang GT's when they first came out in 2005) it can afford you excellent pricing with no haggling.

Oddly enough, last July when I bought my new Ford Ranger, X-Plan was the best route for me to go. This is extremely odd for a "long in the tooth" vehicle like the Ranger, but I found that at that time, dealers weren't dealing much on any of their Rangers because inventory countrywide was very low, and they were banking on "Cash For Clunkers" to be a big money maker on relatively fuel efficient vehicles like the Ranger.

Keep in mind that with X-Plan pricing, you still get any rebates Ford might be offereing on a particular vehicle at the time of purchase.....

It works out to something like invoice + a percentage of the invoice price (I wanna say it's 3-5%) + $500 surcharge plus whatever rebates and incentives are available at the time.

ETA - It's not really a great deal per se, but it ain't bad either.
