Need Help Finding Software for my Camera

Hi Guys,

I'm writing this from the Carnival Pride, we will be docking in Freeport in the morning.
When we stopped at Port Canaveral for the day, I left the ship & bought a laptop at the local Wal-Mart.
It's pretty decent for a low priced lappy. Paid $599 for it, but my camera software won't work.

When I was checking the Cannon site, I could not find the software for my OS, and I know some of you guys are real good at finding any software and drivers a person may need.

The only stuff I could find are pdf files for how to use the software.
The camera is a Canon G9, and the new laptop is:
* Dell Inspiron 1545
* Pentium Dual Core CPU é T4400 at 2.20 GHz
* 4.00 GB Ram
* Windows 7 Home Premium é 64 bit Operating System.

I wasn`t planning on buying a new laptop, but my wife wanted to buy a small dvd player for our cabin, and for an extra 400, I could get a new laptop out of the deal. Plus it`s nice not having to visit the ship`s internet room which is 1 miles from our room.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Habs

Habs,

If you are just trying to transfer pics to the laptop, the Dell has a card reader built in on the side. Pull the card from the camera and stick it in. It will show as a connected memory device. Just drag and drop the image files.

Hello!

^^ yep.

Yer problem is Win 7 64-bit. Drivers can be O/S platrom-specific.

Looking here: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...&modelid=15669 , No Win 7 64-bit driver, or even Win Vista 64-bit drivers are published. Hence these O/s's either already have them included ( plug& play should then recognize the camera when connected) or it's simply not supported.

If it APPS, that link above does show Vista 64-bit versions you can try.

Another thing - try either/or WinXP Compatabiltiy Mode for those apps, but if it's a low-level driver issue this won't help.

And yet another - download the WinXP Virtual machine from Microsoft and use that. Unfortunately yer laptop does NOTsupport VT in hardware ( http://ark.intel.com/VTList.aspx). You should have checked first - NEVER buy a processor without embedded VT support.

Canon is doing a sucky job keeping up with the O/S versions. Shame on them. Win 7 is no longer 'New'. That's just one reason why I'd never buy one.

Good luck!

I have also found that with Win 7, many of the things I had to download drivers for, I no longer need to as they are already included in Win 7. That includes printers, add on cards, etc. If you haven't already tried to plug your camera in, try it, it may work.

Thanks for the help guys. Battery is dead in the camera right now but soon as it is charged, I'll see if it will recognize via 'plug n play'.

In the meantime,Serotta, your suggestion worked perfectly, I just transfered everything from the card to my documents so now I have all the photos on the computer.

We just came back from swimming with the dolphins from the Unexso site in Freeport, I can't wait to see the pictures.

We are pulling out of here any moment now and making the voyage back to Baltimore. This isnt really the place for my question but once we pick up my truck on Sunday from the BWI area, we are planning to drive to the White House to take photos and see the National Mall.
What else is nearby that is a must see and is it easy to find parking there?

I just want to park the truck on Sunday morning and walk around for a few hours to take some photos.

Regards
Habs

** PS---> In my Garmin when I enter the address, do I just select:
2600 Pennsylvania?

It should just work when you plug it in. At least my camera does with Windows 7

Hello!

Totally Agreed, but not ALL multimedia devices are included in the native O/S - it's a huge list, lol.

Canon should have had, by now, Win 7 support details clearly mentioned on their website - heck it may well be - haven't looked all that deeply. That's Habibi's shtick, lol.

And - as indicated Canon has not yet published the camera applicatons compatible with Win 7 32/64-bit.

Olympus, Nikon, Pentax, Sony, Fuji - all okay with those.

If the Garmin can't find the White House by address, you can probably just put in "Democratic Lair" hell, for that matter "Democratic Liar" will also work according to some people.

***** Just a joke guys, don't go ballistic *******

Hey Habs,

You probably already know this, but you can also grab all those pics on the card and drag them to the recycle bin, then empty the recycle bin before you pull the card and the card is blank again. (Of course check to be sure they are on the computer's HD first.) That way you don't waste battery deleting them from the camera side.

On Sunday you shouldn't have trouble finding a place to park. Most parking garages will be closed, but street parking is free on the weekends. On the mall are Air and Space, Natural History, and American History museums among others. I've heard the International Spy Museum (7th and F streets I think, near the Verizon Center) is cool, although I haven't been there myself.

Also, I should mention, if it does not have drivers on the system, allow it to use windows update to search for them. I am in the process of reinstalling my Win 7 using the 64 bit system. Have had it find 3 different pieces of hardware, one automatically, and 2 using windows update. Worked fine.
