Is It Just Me...

or is popular music seeming to be extremely dark and sinster? I'm not a big fan of today's "music", but I try to keep up with some of it because I am responsible for a couple of kids that may listen to it. Take Beyonce. A few years back, she exclaimed in a song that nothing would turn her away from her "spirituality". Now I've noticed that most of her videos are somewhat dark in nature. Levitating above beds, blowing up cars and being extremely provocative. I saw her in a video with Lady Gaga. Jeez, don't get me starting on her. Evil sounding chants within her songs, "bleeding" on stage, etc. Has anybody else noticed this trend? Not in just popular music, but any kind of music? - Og

I agree!
I'm sick of perilous fighting and bombs and night engulfing the last gleaming of twilight and...

In all seriousness though I like a huge variety of music from Heavy Metal to Techno/Trance to Rap to Rock...I try to diversify my music. I kind of like the darker side of music, there's music for everyone.

I hear Yanni makes for some easy listening if that's what your wanting ..I'm just messing with yuh, but i do agree some things have gotten darker, while others have gotten lighter...Manson seems a lot more upbeat than his earlier stuff, which i prefer to the newer stuff.

I haven't heard a good song on the "pop" stations in 10 years.

I've heard of "artists" "selling their souls to the devil" for riches and fame. Maybe an influence? - Og

Yes, the answer to your question is Yes. There is dark and sinister music out there, artists, bands who seemingly make deals with the devil.

Now as far as common folk I doubt many are going to agree with you, I mean listen to rap music, and pop and rock and hear all the talks about killing people. I swear some of the youth coming up today have very very little respect for human life. They would kill you just to take your truck and drive it for a day.

You're right about that. I'm going to do some research. - Og

Tough to beat classic rock and hair metal from the '70's and '80's

...not so much of a fan of the country though

Hmm interesting, seems like that was said as something she was proud of. Thats amazing coming out of someone who grew up in or around the Bible. Imagine explaining that one day.

Hey just get on myspace and check out some of the insane stuff you can see and read there. Its kinda like a fad I think, like check this we know at the moment that if we were a inventor or something that we would have to make something really good to get our product sold in the current times.

I think some of the movies, and music hitting the shelfs these days is a direct responce to that. I mean check this out, "last house on the left" that was a horrible movie. All these movies about stalkers killing people or demons entraping people. I think that they have to go so far now days to get people to listen, especially the younger crowd that they "sell there souls to the devil". Meaning of course they just write things they know if F'ed up because this next generation is going to be full of serial killers, girls kissing girls all those things that are all over movies, music today. And the current ones making it know its all kinda F'ed up in the first place. Thats just my idea could be wrong but I deal with very troublesome youth dailiy.

With the above comments I mean alot of rap music too. I mean a rap song dictates how much the singer hates the "hood", and sales of drugs. Hell at work, when we deal with those inmates who are strung out on this rap stuff.

They will go so far as to answer simple answers such as why did you do that? and answer with a direct line from rap music sometimes even rapping it. Its insane rap music has the minds and hearts of the youth coming up completely fooled.

Yeah rap definitely dictates how a lot of younger people act, i listen to rap not because i like the lyrics or the people singing it but simply because it makes my sub go boom and i have to admit some of the beats are quite catchy, but there are so many other genres of music that can't even be compared to rap as far as quality goes...but that's just my opinion.
