Jeep Project 27in. lift should i get it?

hey guys well after my idea of making my fourwheeler float on water pretty much failed before it got started i found this jeep cherokee on craigslist for $800 or a set of good tires. im wanting to get a set of rockwells eventually and swap them out under it since he did all this stuff to it while it still has stock axles . i've talked to him about it and he said the engine runs fine and has an extended rear drive shaft. NOTE: this jeep would only be for a toy to play in some mud and stuff so im not really concerned about the work craftsmanship thats already been done to it. my cousin has a welder and we could pretty much make everything needed for it work. plus it's only like 10min.s away from me so ill go and check it out first. thoughts?

hahahaha i don't think the pontoons would ever hit the water. i do have like 4 cans of DSG paint so if i got it i may paint it the same color as my truck . the only problem im having is finding some cheap rockwells.

That looks like some XTREEEEME redneck engineering to me. I'd look it over with a fine tooth comb before making a decision.

Toys that break all the time are not much fun.

That's the kind of rig that will break something just going down your driveway, so I would not count on it to do much offroading.

IMO, a tow strap, a winch and a buddy with a reliable vehicle will be necessary if you try to offroad that thing.

ha i don't think you are understanding all it is is a starting point, it's still got a pretty good ways before i would take it through some serious stuff.

I'm not sure you will get any off-roading done in that other than maybe a gravel road at <15 speeds. You pull up on any rock bigger than 2 ft tall and your going to roll it.

My forewarning is, your getting yourself into a mess with something like that unless you know what your doing. First of all cherokees are uni-body meaning its weak as crap. You will twist so easily it's not funny. If you want rockwells I have a feeling your gonna want another engine, the inline 6 is a great engine but not made to move 1 ton axles. Also with tons your gonna need to setup a custom suspension which would probably mean 4 link front and rear, unless you want to pay a shop to do it.

It's up to you, but I bet you have a lot of money and time tied up in it before its all said an done if your carry out your plans. I just sold a grand cherokee that I was going to fix up for rock crawling. Decided I would waist way to much money to do it, and I wasn't even going as big as you were. I will just stick to my yj for now. 39s and a belly height of only 18" does me pretty good.

alright so it would be more less just a mud truck, no really big rocks around here but a lot of mud. yeah i know its a unibody but i've seen unibodies renforced or would it still not work so well. oh and btw i'm not so well educated on big lifted solid axle trucks. i thought even almost the smallest engines would be able to turn the 2.5tons because of their low gearing? would a Dana 60 or another smaller axle geared low work better for this since i would only be running a 47in. tire or so. the suspension we could do. idk i guess i still have a lot to think about.
