I doubt the Bugatti seller is as stupid as the headlines make it look.

First of all, according to the link, the dealer gave him the new ZR1 Vette + undisclosed cash for the Bugatti. Not a straight swap.

I'll bet this deal was in the works for awhile and the former Bugatti owner ended up getting a fair market used price for his car from the eventual buyer (who was lined up before the dealer pulled the trigger on the deal).

The dealership brokers the deal and gets to sell a ZR1, obtains a fat commission on the Bugatti sale and makes some jack from the Bugatti buyer by providing some sort of specialty car financing to the guy.

The guy who bought the Bugatti probably could not pay cash for it, and needed dealer involvement to get a loan. He gets the Bugatti for less than $1.6 with financing, so he's stoked.

For all we know, the buyer and seller of the Bugatti knew each other in advance, negotiated a deal, and approached the dealer so that they could provide the buyer with financing.

I think Dave is right. If it was that bad of a deal why not just pay the $107k and have both?

People that can afford to drive a veyron don't need financing.

Great move IMO. The veyron is a heavy piece of foreign junk good for a straight line.

The zr1 is better overall and more enjoyable to drive...six speed manual tranny...1100 lbs lighter...ran 7:26 at nurburgring where as the veyron is running in the 7:40's

Exactly what is better? Since you obviously have driven both and know the vet is more enjoyable to drive even thought it is slower by a lot why don't you tell us what is more enjoyable about it.

Half the planet can say they own a V8. How many can say their car has a W16?
