Many gov't officials have worked for Goldman, including our last 2 Treasury Secretaries. The latest is Turbo Tax Tim Geithner. Before him was Hank Paulson. Obama and Bush have/had many friends there.

In short, the bailouts were nothing but insurance being paid out via us, the taxpayers.

True. It's not surprising the Bush would bail out his banking buddies. Remember the Savings and Loan crisis in the '80's? Jeb Bush, George Bush Sr., and his son Neil Bush have all been implicated in the Savings and Loan Scandal, which cost American tax payers over $1.4 TRILLION dollars (talk about national debt).
