Question Replace Strut Assembly Or Just The Cartridge?

So at 65,000 miles it's getting time to consider pulling the trigger on new shocks and struts for the wife's 2005 Escape.

Any opinions on whether it is better to replace the entire front strut assembly, or just the cartridge that rides within the assembly? I'm not sure if they offer the entire assemblies for just the sake of convenience on the mechanic's part, or because it is a better way to address the issue....???

Thanks!

Wasn't aware that they offered replacement cartridges. All I've ever seen are strut assemblies.
