What you are asing somebody to do is illegal; at least I am pretty sure that a LEA cannot do that in Ohio. An officer can olnly do a license plate check for professional reasons; not personal ones. If caught, bad things can happen to the police officer.
THis may be a long shot but if you can find a repo man that is willing to cheat a little and you give him a little "tip" then he can run the tag for you and 90 percent chance that he will find the info. Like i said a long shot but i have a brother in law in the repo bussiness and he can run any tag and get the info on it.
It all depends upon what is allowed in your state. In MD, you can look up anyone's license number, but a record is kept of who does. As an individual, you can also block anyone from looking at your info (except LEOs).
yeah, do things legally & cough up the cash. not worth breaking the law. if a cop does it for you...that's a bad cop. even though you dont have malicious intentions, it's still wrong for a cop to do.

Here in FL an agency can possibly lose there NCIC/FCIC terminal priviledges if they look up someones information for personal reasons. A few years ago a very small department looked up Hillary Clintons info, ran for warrants, etc (for fun I guess?) and one of the 3 letter agencies came and literally ripped all the NCIC/FCIC terminals out of the dispatcher center about 4 hours later. As you can imagine it didn't work out to well for the guy that did it. Even if I were bestest buddies with someone I wouldn't risk doing it.
never asked anyone to do anything illegal, never asked for a cop to do it, there are plenty of sites out there where you can pay $15-60 to get the info just didnt want to if i didnt have to
from searching i found that they used to but dont like to do it anymore
Craigslist is a feeding grounds for scams and scums that prey of those who try to legitimately buy and sell on Craigslist. Unless this person is paying cash........for your Dad to do a $60K deal I would spend a few bucks to get all the information possible before turning over his equipment. Be cautious!
