Question Crossroads...

Im in my second year of college in Computer engineering major and I just am really having problems due to having no C++ experience and the school kind of expecting you to write a whole program right off the bat. So I just dont think I can keep going down this road. I looked in to statistics major because its kind of related and only 2 low level programming classes required. But you do have to take advanced calc for stat and I would have to retake multivariable calc because I got a D. I dont know of any other majors that really interest me. I dont know what to do. I need to find something that suits me well and run with it but Im having trouble finding my way.

Thoughts on what I should do?

Have you considered Communications? There are several disciplines.

I only mention it because you drive a truck yet, I had no problem reading your post.

Hey man, I'm actually a returning college student. I just switched from mechanical engineering to computer science. Hence, I have a ton of engineering credits that mean absolutely nothing. My school considers me a senior, my program considers me a sophomore/junior. But enough about me.
Anything in the information technology field is going to be tough, but when you are done it's worth it. multivariable calc is tough, and if you have to retake it it's not the end of the world. If you are having problems keeping up because you have no programming experience you are probably not alone. Talk to your professors and TAs. They are there to help. I'm dealing with the same deal right now. I took 2 programming classes for engineering 2 years ago, now I have to learn it all over again and then some because it is just expected that I know this stuff. Hang in there and good luck on whatever you decide!

Thanks for the advice man. Yeah I'm seriously considering switching to statistics. I just don't think I have the passion for programming and dedication to get through all that. Any statistics majors out there lol

the problem is most of my classes this semester are computer engineering so I would be taking them for nothing basically and possibly hurting my already low 2.42 gpa. I dont know the semester withdrawal procedures or whatever. I do know I can drop one class and still be a full time student.

I thought about majoring in math or stats, but decided it wasn't for me. My wife's cousin-in-law (I think that's right,) majored in statistics and now he is an actuary. And, my brother-in-law's fiancee is majoring in math with an actuary emphasis. To become an actuary you need strong math skills and you need to pass a bunch of tests, but the pay is ridiculous. If you are really interested in stats it might be worth looking into.

I'm in my second year year of college and I was a Software Engineering major as well. I didn't think writing programs was something I could do my entire life and the classes weren't going good for me either. I think I might go into accounting or statistics. I wouldn't choose a business major because, well, everyone and there mother are getting them now and I want something with more specificity. Switching majors is never easy because the schools screw you on credits you already have. Anyways good luck with your decision.

Regarding switching majors to Stats:

Thing is all my classes count for my current ece major expect one. I can only drop one class to stay full time status. So basically the other classes would be taken for nothing but Id still have to do good to salvage my GPA. But they arent easy classes. differential equations and discrete could kick my ***.

So I could withdrawal and go back home for this semester and come back next fall. But damn I feel like a loser. Ugh what to do?

Well you have a Chevy so I guess you're kinda use to it. JK!

If you really don't like what you're doing now there is no sense in stayin in it. If you're going through the trouble of going to college, may as well do something you like right? Maybe just go home for this semester and think about what you really want to do then go back and do it. Sure you might have to stay in school a little longer but hey they say college is the best years of your life.

Buddy of mine was having troubles also but then switched majors to advertising. He got a job at this pleasure house called the boneyard doing advertising for them this past summer, and it is working out great. He said something about possibly getting made as soon as this coming summer.

As long as you didnt take too many class towards your major now, you can prolly use them as free electives towards your new major.

Im on my second year aswell, first year my major was criminal justice, i only had 28's credits after the 1st year, 2nd year i switched to business, all of my CJS class counted towards something in the business major.

As of this year im considering cashing out, i cant do school anymore
