Sinus Surgery

I have been having sinus infections on regular basis, not to mention dizzy spells. My doctor finally did a CT scan and found a growth (3cm) in my left sinus. From the size and palcement they believe it is a Polyp. However while looking at teh scan my doctor also saw a severly deviated septum and some restrictive tissue. I will having surgery to take care of al these things, shortly. My Surgeon is one of the best in Grensboro, he did my fathers cancer surgery 5 years ago. So not real over concerned about the surgery.
My question is who has had this done, and how long did it take to recover fully?

I had it done 1.5 years ago. I had pollups in both sides and the deviated septum, I was back to work the next week. Mine was soo bad that I could barely breath thru my nose, I'd wake up about every 45 mins to an hour all night every night cause my mouth was dry from breathing thru my mouth while sleeping. Now I can sleep thru the night. Best thing I ever did, it improved the quality of life dramatically. My doctor did the surgery on an outpatient basis, I went in at 8:00 AM and was home by 1:30 PM

I have had it done mine was so bad when the doctor looked at my CT he said my sinuses were totaly plugged and like what was said above I was in and out the same day. There are a few things that you should now like you have sleep sitting up which really takes some getting used to. You will have to take it easy for five days that was the hardest for me because I couldnt drive or go to work and the hardest thing is not sneezing and tearing everything apart that the doctor cut apart and stuck back together. Good luck with the surgery.

The worst part is the packing (gauze) they put in your nose and sinuses. Get a good grip on the table when they start pulling it out cause it hurt like a ****.

Everyone I talked to loved the results. I have a deviated septum as well, can anyone recall about how much it was out of pocket after insurance? I hate surgery tho this could be the best one I have had to date. I have a airpocket or something he described above my deviation which puts pressure on my sinus cavitys causing lots of headaches and like above mentioned I have tons of infections.

i had it done about 4 years ago... no bueno. originally, the left side of my nose was always clogged (deviation), after the surgery, everything was just moved to the right side. likewise, has a bad reaction to anethesia, but that's not relevant.

imho, it was a waste of time, money, and the recovery was about a week and a half of drugs and severe un-comfortability (packing and scabbing).

wait till you see those 2" long scabs pulled out of your nose!

I just had mine done last Friday 2-19. It was not as bad as I thought it would be. I have had sinus infections every winter when cold season starts. This year I got one that would not quit since August and the CT scan showed a polyp and my left side was swollen shut. We tried allergy shots and all which made no difference.

I went in at 8:00 Am and was home by 2:00Pm. My ENT was great he did not need to use any packing because I did not bleed much. I was amazed that when I got home I could breathe through my nose. I have had to sleep with my mouth open for years.

It is a pain to sleep sitting up especially for me since it makes my bad back hurt like a witch. I have only needed Tylenol though, the pain is not bad at all. I have been using a neti pot every few hours which has prevented the nasty crusts from forming. Don't try to sleep flat until a week has passed. I learned this the painful way. I did one night and had a bad headache half of the next day.

My first post op visit was very easy. He just sprayed some numbing/anti inflammatory fog up there and used a small suction thing to remove the little bit of crud that was there. It was about as painless as could be as long as you don't sleep flat!

I had mine on 2-4 and I am just about back to normal. Still some discomfort, but nohing I can't live with. Worst part is from the work on deviated septum. Office visit was very uncomfortable, he had to suction a lot of old blood out of left cheek sinus. Overall seems to have been a success.

Without trying to get personal with anyone, how much out of pocket with insurance and all was the procedure? If its too personal question don't bother I understand.

Mine cost me about $1800, that was with the 90-10 split from the insurance

I haven't seen teh total yet, with my 80/ 20 split, I had to pay 500 up front to teh surgery center. That doesn't include the surgeon, or anesthesiologist.

When he tried to do the suction thing on my first post op visit not much came out he was a little surprised. A couple days ago I did the nasal rinse and a huge (1.5 ounces) load of old blood and mucous came out right in the sink. It was amazing how much crap was able to stay in there. My toothache and pressure all went away within minuets.

I have caught a cold from my kids but I feel a lot better even with a cold I feel 10 times better than before. My sinuses do ache a little still but nothing serious.

I had to pay $800 for the ENT and I am waiting to get the hospital bill. Insurance covered $500 of that.
