I need some computer help
ever since I installed windows 7 my computer makes a very annoying sound every time the web page changes. anybody know how to disable this besides turning the speakers down?
yes it definatly comes through the speakers, its sounds like an electronic drum...hard to describe. I use internet explorer 8. Windows 7 also makes an annoying tone when changing speaker volume. If you slide the volume bar up or down as soon as you let go of the mouse it makes a very loud DINGDING! These sounds are driving me crazy...
I know what your talking about now. That noise has always been part of Internet Explorer. Maybe you just didn't notice it before but it was there.
As for the Ding noise when you sue the slide bar to change the volume level. That's part of windows to help you judge how loud the volume is. It has done that since at least Win XP.
I wasn't sure about the IE8 noise before because I don't use it. In fact the only times I have used it were just now when you had your question and when I first got my laptop to install Firefox.
I know that Firefox does not have any such noise and is much better than IE8.

I ran vista before 7 and never noticed either of these noises
its just annoying late at light when your trying to do something on the computer and someone is sleeping in the other room. you accidently let go of the mouse button a little to high on the volume and DING DING. F*%! time to bust out the headphones I guess...

You are right, personalize. At work I don't have win 7 so I could not remember. But every windows I have ever had allowed for you to customize what sounds are played. It also is listed there by application, so you will see stuff pertaining to only IE.

Open the Control Panel.
Double click "Sounds and Devices"
Go to the "Sounds" tab
Under program events:
- scroll down to Windows Explorer - Start Navigation, select this item
- In the Sounds dropdown list, select NONE

ok i figured it out with the advice above. in controll panel/personalization/change sound effects. The volume bar DINGDING was turned off by selecting NONE under Defalt Beep. The browser DONG was turned off by selecting NONE under Start Navigation.
