At the start of a long road
At the start of a long road
hey folks,
wannabe here starting at the beginning of what is going to prove out to be a long road in rebuilding my '98 F-150 4x2 - 4.2v6 truck.
Let's start with some pics (Also found in my album)
http://www.f150online.com/forums/mem...nabe-s-98.html
the truck does have some issues that I know I need to address first. Such as:
1. A small leak of Transmission fluid
2. Oil Pressure recently drops to the low side of normal when it warms up, and the light came on one time, but the level is fine.
3. Possible motor mount broken.
4. Lastly, Alignment.
I am in Greenville SC. and am new to the area so if there are any readers that know of a good, but reasonable mechanic that can look at the truck, and help guide me through triage and do reputable work, or if there is a member that knows how to tackle the issues, and likes to work on the truck with me learning and helping, that'd be great!
So, then with the mechanical issues aside, I would love some suggestions on what to start on first. My goal is to have this truck sitting up on a 2" 4x2 lift with some new rims, and tires to hold the appearance of a 4x4, but still being a 4x2. I know someone that at the right time will do a paint job for me, I am thinking of a charcoal grey front to match the charcoal primer bumper and grill, fading into the white around the door, with 4x4 decals on the rear fenders, and underneath the word "Wannabe" stenciled in. I think it would be sharp....What do y'all think?

I don't understand the whole wannabe thing? The amount of money you'll probably have to spend on getting the truck all fixed up, painted, etc... You could probably afford a 4x4 if you want one that bad. Or, instead of dropping a few hundred bucks every month on repairs, get a small 6-7 thousand dollar loan, and make payments if you plan on going paycheck to paycheck with the rebuild.
But if you're set on rebuilding that base, then more power to you.
I think it would look nice sitting a little higher, and painted. But I would leave out the 4x4 stickers.

Yeah, but I don't really go off road, and I like this truck for some reason. It drives real nice, has around 124k mi on it, (low for the year?) and to be truthful, it isthe first time I am undertaking a project rebuild of a daily driver, or anything for that matter.

Nah, 'Done did that'.
We have 12 months and the wifes mini van is paid for. I don't want payments.

I love my single cab, short bed. But, I will say, a single cab long bed lifted is about as sexy as it gets. I have a hotwheels car that I found at the grocery store of our body style. It's single cab, long bed, and lifted. Probably my greatest grocery store find ever. Especially for only $1.

Awsome!
Now if i could only shrink down and drive it......
