Bluray is AWESOME.....If you have to spend $200, then it's worth it. However, you can find a good player for 100 bucks now. If you're not a total audiophile freak, then again, you don't need the $200+ player. The discs aren't much more than a regular DVD anymore either. I just bought one and the DVD was 19.95 and the Bluray was $24.95. Not a big difference in price but a huge difference in picture and sound quality.

Just to throw it out there, I have a Samsung TV in my bedroom that's awesome. I have a Panasonic Plasma and Panasonic Bluray player in the family room and that to, is awesome. When I turn the Bluray player on it automatically turns the TV on amd sets it to the correct HDMI input.

Panasonic BD-60K here on a Panasonic 50" plasma. $130 for the player, makes it an absolute no-brainer purchase. Bought a few reference discs– Cars, Up, Bladerunner, 2001, Ironman, Watchmen. Picture quality is really stunning. Even my wife said "wow, there's a big difference, even compared to the Oppo up-convert".

Load/read times are slow compared to my Oppo 980. But it seems par for the course for some low cost BD players. It doesn't bother much, the PQ makes it well worth the measly price. The Oppo BDP-83 was the only other considered, but I didn't want to bite a $500 Blu Ray bullet– yet.
